Match of the Day pundit says £27m Arsenal star looked 'flustered' in 2-0 win vs Wolves

Match of the Day pundit Danny Murphy claims one Arsenal star looked ‘flustered’ in last night’s win against Wolves.

Mikel Arteta’s side finally returned to winning ways with a comfortable yet unremarkable result on Saturday at Molineux, with Leandro Trossard’s sensational strike and Martin Odegaard’s late goal securing a 2-0 win for the Gunners.

With the Belgian international winning praise from Theo Walcott, it was a good performance for some Arsenal players away from the Emirates Stadium, with the north London side securing their sixth consecutive clean sheet on the road in the Premier League.

Yet despite this, Murphy says one Arsenal defender didn’t look up to scratch against Wolves.

William Saliba looked ‘flustered’ despite Arsenal clean sheet vs Wolves

Speaking on Match of the Day, Murphy noted William Saliba’s performance against Wolves wasn’t as reliable as we have seen from the Frenchman this season, with the pundit saying: “Saliba, Mr. Cool, even he was looking a little bit flustered.”

Despite the clean sheet, it was evident from Saliba’s performance that the defender wasn’t at his usual best, with the 23-year-old centre-back gifting away possession numerous times in the first-half as Wolves threatened to score.

Although Arsenal grew into the game more as time went on, it was a fixture that Saliba will want to forget quickly, with the brilliance of David Raya the key reason why the north London side kept a clean sheet in the end.

Indeed, with Chelsea and Tottenham coming up next for Arsenal, Saliba will want to get out of this funk sooner rather than later, with just five games remaining for the Gunners this season.

Performance levels can’t drop now for key Arsenal players

Saliba has been one of Arsenal’s most consistent performers since breaking into Arteta’s starting XI at the start of last season, and the defender can’t see his levels drop at this crucial stage of the current campaign.

Alongside Gabriel Magalhaes, Saliba is part of one of the best Premier League central defences with Raya between the sticks, and the trio will have to be at their absolute peak if they’re to bring home the title next month.

Indeed, the next two games could define Arsenal’s Premier League season, and Saliba simply has to be at his best if the Gunners are to end 20 years of not winning the biggest prize in English football.
