Alan Smith lauds 'really good' Arsenal star's 'decision-making' during Wolves win

Alan Smith was full of praise for one ‘really good’ Arsenal player last night in their Premier League win against Wolves.

The Gunners returned to the top of the standings having finally returned to winning ways having failed to claim victory in their last three matches in all competitions, with Manchester City using the slip-up to take top spot in the table.

With Pep Guardiola’s side in FA Cup action this weekend and Liverpool playing later today against Fulham, Arsenal found themselves faced with a must-win game against Wolves, a contest Mikel Arteta and his men managed to triumph in despite the unconvincing nature of the 2-0 result.

Yet there were some good performances from Arsenal plays, and Smith was impressed by one in particular.

Ben White praised for ‘really good’ Arsenal performance vs Wolves

Speaking on Sky Sports coverage of the match, the Arsenal icon lauded Ben White for the England international’s performance against Wolves, with Smith saying: “He has been really good on that right-hand side, Ben White, tonight, decision-making, passing.”

Having looked dejected earlier in the week after losing to Bayern Munich in the UEFA Champions League, White looked back to his best last night against Wolves, with the defender winning two aerial duels and managing an impressive 96% pass accuracy.

Yet as Smith stated, it was his forward play down the right that White impressed with most against Wolves, with the defender again linking up well with Bukayo Saka as the 26-year-old fullback often does alongside his England international.

Indeed, the link-up between Saka and White is one of the best in the Premier League and one that has been key in Arsenal flourishing under Arteta, and the defender again showed last night why he is one of the most efficient fullbacks in the division.

White again showed why he is undroppable for Arteta

White’s transition to right-back has been as flawless as it has been incredible, with Arsenal stumbling upon one of the best fullbacks in the Premier League almost by accident following the return of William Saliba.

And the former Brighton & Hove Albion mana again showed why he is undroppable for Arteta, who heading into the last five games of the season will be one of Arsenal’s most important players in going for the title.

If White can stay fit, Arsenal have a real chance of ending their 20-year wait for a Premier League championship, with the defender one of the most driven players in the squad to make this dream a reality.
