Arsenal injury latest and return dates with 3 Bayern Munich doubts amid Odegaard update

The latest Arsenal injury news ahead of the Gunners visiting Bayern Munich for their Champions League quarter-final second-leg tie, amid an update on Martin Odegaard.

A late goal by Leandro Trossard (76’) rescued Arsenal a 2-2 draw at home to Bayern Munich last Tuesday. It gave the Gunners parity again having spurned a 1-0 lead following two costly errors by David Raya. Now, they must win a tie in Bavaria for the first time since March 2013.

Arsenal started strongly against Bayern Munich with Bukayo Saka (12’) punishing Eric Dier to break the deadlock. The 22-year-old placed his shot in the far corner of Manuel Neuer’s goal at Emirates Stadium. But Raya’s rashness saw Der FCB pull level and ahead after 32 minutes.

Raya mindlessly burst to the halfway line and forced Gabriel Magalhaes to scramble, before losing the ball to see Serge Gnabry (18’) score. Leroy Sane having his way with Jakub Kiwior then saw William Saliba concede a penalty Harry Kane (32’) scored as Raya dived very early.

Arsenal must now echo Arsene Wenger’s squad which won 2-0 at Allianz Arena 11 years ago if they are to reach the semi-finals of the Champions League for the first time since 2008/09. But manager Mikel Arteta heads to Bayern Munich with a mostly clear Injury list at Arsenal…

Fears for the fitness of captain Odegaard spiked on Sunday during Arsenal’s 2-0 loss against Aston Villa. Arteta replaced the 25-year-old in the 79th minute after he got a knock. But the injury is not major and should not stop Odegaard playing when Arsenal face Bayern Munich.

The injury also did not stop Odegaard from training at London Colney on Tuesday as Arsenal prepared for their trip to Bayern Munich. He has not missed a game since the Gunners beat Burnley in November due to a concussion. Odegaard also has 10 goals in 41 matches so far.

Expected return: Bayern Munich (April 17)

Bukayo Saka injury latest

Hale End hero Saka suffered another possible injury during Arsenal’s defeat to Aston Villa on Sunday. The 22-year-old was able to play the full 90 minutes but he began limping heavily in the closing stages. It also followed him returning from his muscular injury away to Brighton.

Saka missed Arsenal’s 2-0 win over Luton Town due to his injury and took another knock at Amex Stadium which threatened his involvement in the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final against Bayern Munich. But the winger is fighting through any pain to feature.

Expected return: Bayern Munich (April 17)

Jurrien Timber injury latest

Arsenal continue to give Jurrien Timber every opportunity to recover 100% from his surgery for an ACL injury. The 22-year-old has not featured since sustaining the blow just 50 minutes into his Premier League debut in August. But he is taking part in the group training sessions.

Arteta also believes that Timber is not far off making his return from injury before Arsenal finish the 2023/24 season. But he is in a race against time to make a telling contribution for the Gunners as they fight for the Premier League title and, possibly, the Champions League.

Expected return: April/May 2024
