Sam Matterface has heaped praise on Arsenal winger Gabriel Martinelli.

Gabriel Martinelli will once again be a key figure for Arsenal this season. 

Last season the 22-year-old Brazilian was in sensational form for the north London club. Across 36 Premier League outings last time out, Martinelli scored 15 goals and chipped in with 3 assists.

In an injury hit start to the current campaign, the seven-cap Brazil international has scored once and laid on two assists.

At his best, Martinelli is a devastating presence on the left flank for the Gunners. His pace, flair, and willingness to run directly at defenders with the ball at his feet makes him a constant threat. Mikel Arteta will also love how hard-working the youngster is. Martinelli is always willing to track back and help out his own back four.

His speed and stamina allow him to make his presence felt at both ends of the pitch. This supreme running power has now drawn praise from Sam Matterface.

Speaking on talkSPORT, Matterface said, “I don’t know what you think but every time I see [Gabriel] Martinelli sprint I think, ‘Oh my god’. He’s so fast, isn’t he? He’s almost uncatchable. And even the fastest players in the Chelsea team could get nowhere near him. I mean he is so rapid, he’s off the charts.”

Martinelli’s pace is such a weapon. If given the chance to run in behind, no defender is catching him. In those situations, the Brazilian is also remarkably composed and reliable in his finishing.

Arteta will want to see Martinelli getting into goalscoring areas with greater regularity. Whilst he is often tasked with hugging the touchline and stretching the pitch, Martinelli will also be given license to dart in behind when possible.

As the likes of Kai Havertz and Fabio Vieira, who he is particularly close with, play with Martinelli more and get used to picking up on his movements, they will be able to generate more chances for the winger.

As he gains more experience, Martinelli himself will become more adept at sniffing out the best moments to hurt defences and make his extraordinary pace count.
