Thomas Partey is becoming angry about his reduced role at Arsenal and will consider a transfer away in January if boss Mikel Arteta does not trust him again by Christmas.

That is according to 90min, which reports that Arteta frustrated Partey after not starting the 30-year-old at Chelsea last Saturday. Arsenal started with Declan Rice, Martin Odegaard and Jorginho in midfield. But Partey felt he should have started one of their most crucial fixtures.

Arteta further frustrated Partey by bringing Kai Havertz and Emile Smith Rowe on to replace Jorginho and Odegaard. It was the first time this season that Partey has not appeared in one of the Gunners’ Premier League matches when fit. He missed four games with a groin injury.

Partey sustained the injury while playing as a makeshift right-back against Fulham in August. The Ghanaian has played just 15 minutes in his natural defensive midfield position so far this term. Arteta brought him on in the final stages against Manchester City to see out a 1-0 win.

Rice’s arrival at Emirates Stadium this summer has cost Partey his almost guaranteed spot in Arteta’s engine room. But to now also stand behind Jorginho in the Spaniard’s pecking order has agitated Partey and his camp further. So, the midfielder is open to considering a transfer.

Partey is willing to prove in training at London Colney that Arteta is wrong to omit him from Arsenal’s line-up. But 90min notes that the midfielder will only give the Gunners coach until Christmas. He will then review his future if the 45-cap enforcer’s situation does not improve.

Offers may come flooding in at Emirates Stadium if Partey decides he wants to leave Arsenal in a January transfer. La Repubblica noted in September that Juventus are still interested in Partey. The Serie A side had eyed his signature in the summer but could not agree on terms.

Partey only playing 251 minutes of Premier League football so far this season, with 236 also coming as a right-back, will encourage Juventus to raid Arsenal if Arteta does not reconsider the midfielder’s role. He was also an unused substitute in the Champions League at RC Lens.
