Martin Odegaard hails ‘dangerous’ 18-year-old Arsenal target reportedly set for transfer

Arsenal captain Martin Odegaard has lauded the ‘dangerous’ impact of Antonio Nusa after the Club Brugge star shone for Norway amid transfer interest from the Gunners.

Nusa blew Odegaard away with his work as Norway fell to a 1-0 defeat at home to Spain last Sunday. Manager Stale Solbakken had defied calls to start the 18-year-old in the Euro 2024 qualifier. But the forward showed why he is earning admirers with just 32 minutes of action.

Spain struggled to resist the sprightly presence Nusa gave Norway as the Stabaek product received only his fourth cap. La Roja would find a way to deny the winger, though. It was the first time that Nusa failed to score or assist whilst representing his nation at the senior level.

Arsenal target Nusa stuns Odegaard with Norway vs Spain

Nusa burst out of the gates by scoring and assisting against Jordan on his Norway debut last month. Solbakken started the rising star in the friendly and kept the attacker in his XI against Georgia. Nusa offered two assists in the Euro 2024 qualifier as Odegaard scored in a 2-1 win.

Another assist even followed to thrash Cyprus 4-0 this month as Nusa came off the bench to feed Erling Haaland. And while he would not influence a goal against Spain, Nusa impressed Arsenal captain Odegaard. The Norway skipper adored the 18-year-old’s immediate impact.

“It’s nice to see Norwegian players who make themselves noticed like this,” Odegaard told VG, via Voetbal Primeur. “As soon as Nusa came off the bench, he became dangerous.”

Club Brugge know they cannot keep the Arsenal target in 2024

Odegaard’s comments are just his latest praise for Nusa amid Arsenal showing interest in his transfer from Club Brugge. The 24-year-old also hailed the winger after his breakthrough for Norway last month. Odegaard called Nusa an ‘incredibly exciting’ talent after facing Georgia.

Reports by 90min first credited Arsenal with an interest in Nusa’s transfer from Club Brugge in September. It noted that the Gunners had joined Chelsea in the race for his services after the Blues failed with a £26m bid. They tabled the offer too late in the summer to get a deal.

Liverpool and Newcastle United also have eyes on the winger. AFC Ajax, Borussia Dortmund, AS Monaco and Lyon have even expressed their interest, too. HLN also reported last month that Arsenal wanted to scout Nusa whilst playing Besiktas in the Europa Conference League.

But Nusa did not play due to an injury to the bane of scouts for Chelsea, Manchester United, Atletico Madrid, Borussia Dortmund and Marseille. The Langhus-born prospect continues to attract interest having now scored five and assisted four goals in 48 games at Club Brugge.

For how much longer Nusa plies his trade with Club Brugge remains to be seen, though. Per Ben Jacobs, the Belgian Jupiler Pro League side know that they cannot keep Nusa next year. They expect him to leave with Chelsea heading interest from Italy and France in his transfer.
