"I think..': Ian Wright makes Chelsea v Arsenal prediction, then changes his mind

Legendary former Arsenal striker Ian Wright has picked his winner for this weekend’s clash between his old club and Chelsea.

Arsenal travel to Stamford Bridge on Saturday to take on Chelsea. A win will mean that they remain ahead of reigning Premier League champions Manchester City in the table. It will also maintain their unbeaten start to the league season.

Mikel Arteta will be desperate to see his side leave west London and return to the Emirates Stadium with all three points in tow. However, the Spanish coach will be well aware that victory won’t come easily.

Despite their poor form, Chelsea can boast a squad full of quality players. The likes of Raheem Sterling, Nicolas Jackson, and Mykhailo Mudryk can all pose a serious threat to the Gunners’ rearguard. Of course, the Blues will also be aided by home advantage.

Even allowing for these concerns, Arsenal will feel that they have enough quality to claim a win, as long as they are at their best. Arteta’s side certainly should be full of confidence given they beat Manchester City last time out.

That confidence is spreading to the fans and pundits alike. Ian Wright feels sure that his old club will do the business in this London derby face-off.

Wright backs Arsenal

Speaking on The Overlap, Wright said, “I think we’re beating them. We always cause Chelsea a problem at Stamford Bridge, I’ll go with 3-1.”

However, the former striker, who played 288 times for Arsenal in his career and scored 185 goals for the club, quickly tempered his enthusiasm and reined in his expectations a touch. He adjusted his forecast of the match, saying, “ no, 2-1 Arsenal.”

Arteta himself won’t mind hugely what the scoreline is as long as his side get the win. However, he will want to see the same kind of solidity at the back that his team produced against Manchester City.

As for former Chelsea players Kai Havertz and Jorginho, they will be desperate to impress if given the chance to play.
