Arsenal have been credited with an interest in Bayern Munich sensation Jamal Musiala.

According to 90min, Arsenal are one of several Premier League Clubs keen on securing the services of Jamal Musiala. As well as the Gunners, Liverpool, Manchester United, and Chelsea are keeping tabs on the player, whilst Manchester City are also said to be “huge fans” of the 20-year-old.

It is unsurprising to see Musiala attracting such attention. The ‘special’ attacking midfielder has been one of the standout players in the Bundesliga in recent seasons, despite his youth.

Musiala has already racked up 133 appearances for Bayern Munich across all competitions, scoring 32 goals for the German giants.

It would be a huge coup for the north London club if they were able to tempt the £91,000-a-week starlet to the Emirates Stadium. However, he certainly wouldn’t come cheap. Bayern Munich are desperate to retain the 24-cap Germany international’s services and tie him down to a new long-term contract.

Musiala not who Arsenal need

Even if Arsenal could lure Musiala to the club, Mikel Arteta has to consider that doing so wouldn’t be the best use of the transfer funds available to him. 

The Bayern Munich man’s best position is in a central attacking role, behind the striker. He would likely flourish alongside Martin Odegaard. However, Arsenal spent £65 million in the recent summer transfer window recruiting Kai Havertz to play that role, and they need to keep faith in the former Chelsea man.

On top of that, Emile Smith Rowe, Fabio Vieira, and Leandro Trossard can all also excel in this position. Meanwhile, there is an argument that Arsenal are in greater need of reinforcements deeper in midfield, on the right flank, and up front.

Given these factors, and for all of the promise and talent that Musiala possesses, he is not the target that Arsenal ought to be prioritising at this time.
