Former Arsenal striker Kevin Campbell is eager to see Ben White agree new terms with the club.

Journalist Fabrizio Romano recently claimed that Arsenal are in negotiations with Ben White over a new contract for the defender. The north London club are apparently confident that an agreement will be reached.

The Gunners paid £50 million to prise White away from Brighton and Hove Albion in the summer of 2021.

In his first season at the Emirates Stadium, White partnered Gabriel Magalhaes in the heart of the Arsenal defence. However, after the emergence of William Saliba at the start of last season, Mikel Arteta opted to utilise White as a right-back.

The 26-year-old has since excelled in this position, forming a very productive partnership with Bukayo Saka on the right flank.

White is now a fan favourite at Arsenal and an integral member of Arteta’s squad. He starts week in, week out and is a reliably consistent performer.

It will be good news for the Gunners if the four-cap England international signs new terms with the club. 

Campbell delighted by potential Ben White deal

Kevin Campbell, who featured for the north London outfit between 1988 and 1995, wants to see White put pen to paper as soon as possible.

Speaking to The Highbury Squad, Campbell said, “tie down all your good quality young players. Tie them down for long contracts. And these guys are only going to get better together.”

“Ben White, do you remember many people questioned him at right-back? Really questioned him at right-back. But he has gone on from strength to strength and he has made that right-back spot his own…Tie him down.”

Given his age, White could well be a star for Arsenal for years to come. His versatility also makes him a useful player for Arteta to have at his disposal, as he can still fill in as a centre-back when required.

The Gunners have handed new contracts to Martin Odegaard, William Saliba, Bukayo Saka, and Aaron Ramsdale in recent months. White ought to be the next name added to that list as Arteta looks to continue taking steps ensure the future success of the club.
