'My understanding...': Journalist makes Partey prediction ahead of Chelsea v Arsenal

Journalist Charles Watts does not expect Thomas Partey to be heavily involved for Arsenal against Chelsea.

Arsenal are set to travel to Stamford Bridge to take on Chelsea in a Premier League clash on Saturday. Plenty of fans will be on tenterhooks to see if Thomas Partey makes the trip.

Partey has endured an injury hit start to the new campaign. The 30-year-old midfielder has missed out on being involved in Premier League clashes with Manchester United, Everton, Tottenham Hotspur, and Bournemouth.

He made his return to action, as a late substitute, against Manchester City last time out.

Fitness issues have been a consistent factor throughout Partey’s time at the Emirates Stadium. Mikel Arteta knows that he needs to be managed carefully.

Fortunately, Ghana boss Chris Hughton realises this too and has been cautious with the player throughout the current international break.

Ghana faced off against Mexico on Sunday, with Partey named in the starting XI. However, the 45-cap star was taken off at half-time.

Watts expects further Partey caution

Journalist Charles Watts believes that this substitution was made as a protective measure and that this international run out won’t have done Partey any harm.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Watts said, “my understanding of Thomas Partey’s early withdrawal from Ghana’s game against Mexico at half-time was a pre-determined thing, and they were just trying to manage his minutes after being so long out with injury…Panic over, no need to be concerned.”

Although Partey is now fit to play, Arteta still won’t be keen to take any risks, especially as he doesn’t have to. With Declan Rice, Jorginho, and Mohamed Elneny all on the books at Arsenal, the Gunners can cope without the former Atletico Madrid man.

Looking ahead to Saturday, Watts continued, “I’d be surprised if Thomas Partey starts that game against Chelsea but we shall wait and see.”

Ghana still have one more game to play during this international break. They are set to face the USA in Nashville on Wednesday. Arteta and the Arsenal supporters will all be hoping that Partey can once again come through this match unscathed.

It will be a huge boost for the north London club if Partey can get back to full fitness quickly.
