Arsenal’s next 5 Premier League games predicted as gap with Man City grows

Arsenal have a great chance to build their gap to Manchester City over the two teams’ next five Premier League games, starting with this week’s trip to London rival Chelsea.

Manchester City also face Manchester United, AFC Bournemouth, Chelsea and Liverpool in their next five Premier League Games. Tottenham Hotspur even go to Etihad Stadium at the start of December. City also face BSC Young Boys and RB Leipzig in the Champions League.

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta, then, has a great chance to build the Gunners’ lead over the Citizens in their games. The Emirates Stadium outfit share the top spot with Tottenham with 20 points from eight games. Man City sit third with 18 after losing 1-0 at Arsenal this month.

Champions League nights also feature on the Gunners’ schedule with ties against Sevilla and RC Lens to come. But Arteta will look positively at Arsenal’s next five Premier League games as the Spaniard strives to win the title. So, Arsenal Insider has predicted their upcoming run.

Chelsea (0) vs Arsenal (2), October 21

Arsenal visit Chelsea after the international break looking to pile further misery on Mauricio Pochettino’s poor start at Stamford Bridge. The Blues only sit 11th in the table having scored just 11 points from eight fixtures. They have three wins and two draws under the Argentine.

Chelsea’s wins further only come against Luton Town, Fulham and Burnley – only Fulham are not in the relegation fight. Pochettino has also lost at home to Nottingham Forest and Aston Villa. So, Arsenal will be confident of continuing their recent run over Chelsea this weekend.

Arteta did the double over Chelsea last season with Arsenal winning 0-1 at Stamford Bridge and 3-1 at Emirates Stadium. The Spaniard also took a 2-4 win in west London in April 2022 and a 0-1 win in December 2020. Arsenal last lost a league game at Chelsea in August 2018.

Arsenal (3) vs Sheffield United (0), October 28

Sheffield United will be desperate to kickstart their return to the Premier League coming out of the international break. But games with Manchester United and Arsenal could leave them falling further adrift at the bottom of the table. The Blades only have a point in eight games.

Paul Heckingbottom will surely fear Sheffield United’s trip to Arsenal later this month as the threat of relegation grows rapidly. The Bramall Lane natives have not beaten the Gunners on the road since August 1971. Arsenal are unbeaten at home in 18 fixtures in all competitions.

Arteta will expect nothing but Arsenal to make it 19 games unbeaten at home to Sheffield United this season. No team has conceded more shots per Premier League game so far this term than the Blades (22). Arsenal are the second-best team with only 8.9, per WhoScored.

Newcastle United (1) vs Arsenal (2), November 4

Arsenal will start November with a tough visit to Newcastle United. But the Toon are not the Magpies of last season that qualified for the Champions League. Instead, Eddie Howe’s team started the October international break only eight in the table with four wins in eight games.

What might alarm Arteta, though, is that Newcastle still have the second-best offence so far this season. But eight of their 20 goals yet came against Sheffield United who, naturally, also have the worst defence with 22 goals conceded. No side has allowed fewer than Arsenal (6).

So, it is likely to be a cagey affair at St James’ Park, where Arsenal won 2-0 last season. This season’s trip to Tyneside also comes between a Carabao Cup clash at West Ham United and a Champions League clash with Sevilla. So, Arteta will have to manage his line-ups carefully.

Arsenal (1) vs Burnley (0), November 11

Burnley are battling to avoid relegation during their first season back in the Premier League. The Clarets currently sit 19th in the table having only won one of their opening eight games under Vincent Kompany. But Arteta knows Arsenal cannot take a game with Burnley lightly.

Three of Arsenal and Burnley’s last five Premier League meetings have ended as draws. Just once in that run have the Gunners beaten the Clarets, too, with their 1-0 win at Turf Moor in September 2021. While Burnley won 1-0 away at Emirates Stadium in December 2020, too.

Arsenal have further only scored twice against Burnley in those five Premier League games. Two of their meetings ended goalless and the other draw finished 1-1. So while Sean Dyche is no longer in charge of the Clarets, Arsenal cannot rest on their laurels at home to Burnley.

Brentford (0) vs Arsenal (1), November 25

Arsenal come out of the November international break with a fixture at Brentford in another Premier League London derby. The Gunners have already played with Crystal Palace, Fulham and Tottenham this term. They will also meet Chelsea before Arteta’s side head for the Bees.

Arteta will also hope Arsenal are still unbeaten in Premier League London derbies when they leave the Gtech Community Stadium. He will sense the opportunity Arsenal have from their next five Premier League games to move clear of Manchester City given their run of fixtures.

Brentford are also struggling this season with just one win over eight games. Thomas Frank’s team beat Fulham in matchday two but have since drawn with Crystal Palace, Bournemouth and Nottingham Forest. They have also lost to Newcastle, Everton and Manchester United.

The continued absence of Ivan Toney, who Arsenal are interested in, has hurt Brentford this season. They have only scored once in each of their past three Premier League games. They also lost 1-0 to Arsenal in the Carabao Cup and could expect a similar score in the top-flight.
