Report: Arsenal now have major concern about signing ‘fantastic’ £60m transfer target

Arsenal are tracking Pedro Neto in view of signing the Portugal talent to offer a similar presence to Leandro Trossard but have a major concern about a transfer from Wolves.

That is according to football.london, which reports that Arsenal would ‘love’ to sign Neto as Mikel Arteta really likes him. But it remains unclear if Edu will launch talks with Wolves over a transfer in January. The Gunners might wait until a future window to target the 23-year-old.

Arsenal might bide their time as the north London giants have a ‘major concern’ surrounding Wolves’ expected asking price. Big-money moves for Declan Rice and Kai Havertz while also signing Jurrien Timber raised fears about Financial Fair Play (FFP) before loaning David Raya.

Wolves’ price tag for Neto’s transfer is a ‘major concern’ for Arsenal

Wolves could now price Arsenal out of signing Neto in January as he remains under contract at Molineux until 2027. The four-cap star has also started this season in incredible form with five assists in eight Premier League Games. He also has one goal from 720 minutes of action.

Neto hitting the ground running after an ankle injury thwarted his campaign last term has an array of suitors keen. Arsenal are firmly in the pack as Arteta envisages Neto playing a raft of roles at Emirates Stadium. He can feature as a left or a right-winger and even as a false No9.

FFP may thwart Arsenal’s interest in Neto’s transfer, though, as Wolves may price Arteta out of a deal. TEAMtalk reports that the Old Gold value the 5 ft 7 dynamo at no less than £60m. It also claims Arsenal as well as Manchester United’s interest in Neto’s transfer from Wolves.

Arteta and Erik ten Hag both appreciate what the winger could offer at Emirates Stadium or Old Trafford. Both clubs have also spoken with his agent, Jorge Mendes, about what Wolves may want to cash in. While Darren Bent has stated his desire to see Neto transfer to Arsenal.

“He’s too good [for Wolves],” Bent recently declared on talkSPORT. “I’m hoping Arsenal get him, that’s what I’m hoping, because he is fantastic.”

Sporting director Edu fulfilling Bent’s dreams and landing Arteta his target might see Arsenal repeat the masterstroke of signing Trossard. The Gunners raided Brighton & Hove Albion for the Belgian last January. He switched to north London for an initial £20m, rising up to £27m.

Trossard has since given Arteta a versatile presence with games across the Gunners’ attack through his 29 fixtures so far. The 28-year-old has also offered 11 assists and four goals in all competitions. He even penned 10 of those assists in 20 Premier League games last season.
