24-year-old Arsenal star may benefit from International break following dip in form - opinion

Arsenal star Eddie Nketiah started the season superbly, earning himself a first England call-up, but his form has taken a dip in the games since his return.

After initially scoring twice in his opening three games, Nketiah has failed to find the back of the net since, with his last goal coming against Fulham in August.

His call-up to the England squad at the start of September was fully deserved, but he failed to make his international debut as he was an unused substitute in the victory over Scotland.

Despite his dip in form, he has been included in the squad to face Australia and Italy in this International break, and this may be a good thing for him.

International chance for Nketiah

With Bukayo Saka pulling out of the England squad with no replacement called up, Nketiah may have a better chance at gaining at least some bench minutes in this International break.

The friendly against Australia is a game he will be eyeing up for a potential debut, and if he does make it onto the pitch, he could really benefit from it.

Making a senior International debut would likely give him a massive confidence boost following his dry run in front of goal. Whilst his goals do not tell the whole story, with Nketiah often playing well in terms of his movement and pressing, his confidence seems to have dipped in recent weeks.

Nketiah was performing at the very top of his game in the first few matches of the season, winning penalties, scoring and contributing well in all-round play, and he will hope to return to that level soon.

England boost

Should Nketiah make his debut, nothing would be better for him than grabbing a maiden England goal, having established himself as England under-21’s all-time top scorer in previous years.

The 24-year-old has battled hard to make himself an Arsenal regular and hopefully, an England International, and a goal for his country could see him return to Mikel Arteta’s side with his confidence restored and his goalscoring touch found.

Arsenal will travel to Stamford Bridge following the International break, and Nketiah will hope an England goal could see him start against Chelsea.

Two seasons ago, it was his performance at the Bridge, where he scored twice in a 4-2 win, where really announced himself as an Arsenal Star, and earned himself a new contract to stay at the club. Now, he will hope the same ground allows him to find that form again and prove why this was the right decision.
