Arsenal legend David Seaman admits he is 'concerned' about £120k-a-week player he ‘loves'

Iconic former Arsenal goalkeeper David Seaman has admitted that he is concerned about Aaron Ramsdale.

Aaron Ramsdale has lost his place in the Arsenal starting XI. The goalkeeper has been usurped in Mikel Arteta’s pecking order by David Raya, who arrived on loan from Brentford in the recent summer transfer window.

The Gunners are expected to make the Spanish shot-stopper’s switch to the Emirates Stadium a permanent one for a fee of £27 million.

This suggests that the odds are against Ramsdale reclaiming the No. 1 spot. The 25-year-old will still fight for the position, but Arteta seems satisfied with what Raya now brings to the team.

Despite the fact that he only signed a new long-term contract with Arsenal in May of this year, the four-cap England international’s long-term future may well lay away from the north London club.

David Seaman, who made 564 appearances between the sticks for Arsenal between 1990 and 2003, winning three league titles in the process, certainly fears that Ramsdale could suffer due to his lack of game time.

Future in doubt for Ramsdale

On his podcast, Seaman Says, the 60-year-old was asked if he would be concerned if Ramsdale didn’t start for Arsenal after the international break. He said, “a little bit, yeah…I would be concerned because then Aaron isn’t playing and England have a friendly against Australia and then a qualifier against Italy. Big games. I would imagine he might play vs Australia and then Pickford against Italy. But it’s now getting a long time since Aaron has played.”

Seaman went on to praise the £120,000-a-week man for how he has coped since losing place in the team. Seaman said, “what I love about the guy is at the end of the game is that he walks round and applauds the fans and he gets a really good reception. You can tell that the fans still love him.”

Ramsdale is a fan favourite at the Emirates Stadium. He can also consider himself unfortunate to have been dropped. He hadn’t done much wrong to be deserving of a demotion. Arteta seemingly prefers Raya for tactical reasons.

Ramsdale is a top-class ‘keeper who should be able to make a strong case for being the England No. 1.

If he is to achieve that aim, though, he may need to give up on getting his Arsenal career back on track and begin seeking pastures new sooner rather than later.
