'Reassured': Journalist now shares talks between Mikel Arteta and 'special' Arsenal star amidst uncertain future

Emile Smith Rowe can count himself unlucky that he has not featured more this season, having been linked with a move away in the summer.

The midfielder has started just once, in the Carabao Cup against Brentford, and has been limited to short substitute appearances, in which he has mostly performed well.

Smith Rowe was linked with a move to Chelsea over the summer, but a deal never materialised, much to the relief of Arsenal fans who were reluctant to see a Hale End graduate join a rival.

Smith Rowe spoke to Arteta

Despite staying at the club, Smith Rowe’s lack of game time raises questions about his future, and a number of clubs are considering a move for him including West Ham.

However, journalist Paul Brown has now told GIVEMESPORT that the 23-year-old has spoken to Mikel Arteta about his game time, and has been reassured that he will get opportunities to stake a place in the starting XI.

“So I understand that Arteta and Smith-Rowe have spoken about his future. He’s been reassured that he’s still a big part of this club,” Brown stated.

“And I think the fact that he’s an academy graduate that they still believe has huge potential means they would be very unwilling to try and sanction a sale if he did try to leave.”

“He got a chance recently in the Carabao Cup and he’s obviously under pressure to force his way back into the team. Arteta has basically challenged him to show he deserves it.”

There is a very obvious answer to solve Smith Rowe’s current conundrum, which is to simply give him a proper chance to shine.

The England international was one of the side’s best players when he last had a run of games before his long-term injury, with Jamie Carragher describing him as “special.”

With Kai Havertz currently disappointing in his attacking midfield role, Smith Rowe could provide the creativity and goal threat from midfield that Arsenal are currently lacking.

If he continues to be left out in the cold whilst Havertz struggles, then serious questions will be raised about Smith Rowe’s future at the club. He is an asset who will only lose his value if he is not playing, and a tough decision will need to be made soon.
