RC Lens announce major change against Arsenal set to create special UCL occasion

RC Lens have announced that Franck Haise’s side will debut a special edition Puma kit for the visit of Arsenal on Tuesday to celebrate their return to the Champions League.

Les Sang et Or will host elite UEFA football at Stade Bollaert-Delelis again for the first time in 20 years when the Gunners arrive in Pas-de-Calais. Arsenal are also the first continental club to visit RC Lens since the 2007/08 season. So, Puma designed a special kit for the occasion.

Arsenal are RC Lens’ second match in the Champions League this season after they drew 1-1 at Sevilla. The Gunners started their Group B campaign with a boisterous 4-0 win at home to PSV Eindhoven. Now, Mikel Arteta’s team fly to France hoping to spoil Les Sang et Or’s party.

RC Lens to debut a Champions League kit at home to Arsenal

RC Lens moved to create a special occasion with Puma as the Champions League returns to Stade Bollaert-Delelis. The Ligue 1 side and German sportswear giants have redesigned the blood-red and gold jersey Les Sang et Or adopted in their last term in the UEFA competition.

Puma and RC Lens have created a new home kit that Haise’s side will wear in the Champions League to echo back to a time in Les Sang et Or’s history still held fondly in their supporter’s hearts. It is also viewed as a handoff from the golden generation to the club’s latest heroes.

RC Lens will debut their golden Puma jersey with blood-red accents when Arsenal visit Stade Bollaert-Delelis on Tuesday. The fixture further marks 26 years since the first match between the Gunners and Les Sang et Or. The teams drew 1-1 in the Champions League group stage.

Arsenal have met RC Lens four times in the past and have won on two occasions. The north London giants won home and away under Arsene Wenger in the 1999/2000 UEFA Cup semi-finals. But the Gunners have never yet beaten Les Sang et Or in a Champions League fixture.

The 1998/99 Champions League campaign, in which RC Lens edged Arsenal 1-0 at Highbury in the group stage, also marked Les Sang et Or’s debut in the UEFA competition. They exited after the group stage and fell away in the first group stage during the 2002/03 term, as well.
