Arsenal have been linked with a number of strikers in the past few days, and Santiago Gimenez is the latest name touted for a move.

The Feyenoord striker today netted a hattrick over Ajax in a derby match which saw the game postponed and resumed over the course of a few days, and has now scored nine times in seven games this season.

The Mexico international has been clinical, and is now on the radar at Arsenal, with Mikel Arteta reportedly eyeing up a number of forwards including Ivan Toney and Ollie Watkins.

The Times have now reported that Arsenal have Scouted Gimenez, but if they are to move for a forward, they will need to sell in order to balance the books financially.

“Arsenal have also scouted Santiago Giménez, the 22-year-old who has scored 33 goals for Feyenoord across all competitions since the start of last season,” the report stated.

“But a move for either of the forwards would require Arsenal to sell players before the end of June to ensure they stay within Financial Fair Play limits.”

What would Gimenez bring to Arsenal?

It remains to be seen whether Arsenal will indeed pursue a move for the forward given the FFP restrictions, but Gimenez could arrive as a goalscorer who is also comfortable on the ball.

However, there is an element of risk when signing strikers from the Dutch first division. The likes of Antony, Vincent Janssen and others have struggled in the Premier League after succeeding in the Netherlands, and Gimenez may not be ready to lead the line at Arsenal yet.

Given his age though, he could be an option to arrive now and eventually develop into a killer forward for Arsenal. He has been described as “fantastic” by Feyenoord legend Mario Breen, and he has scored 33 times in 52 games since joining from Cruz Azul last year.
