Andros Townsend has given his verdict on what he expects from Kai Havertz at Arsenal.

Since Arsenal paid £65 million to prise Kai Havertz away from Chelsea in the recent summer transfer window, the German has struggled to shine at the Emirates Stadium.

Havertz hasn’t been awful for Arsenal by any means, but rather average overall, and he is yet to record a goal or an assist for the Gunners with eight appearances now under his belt.

However, Mikel Arteta will still have faith that Havertz can come good for the north London club. He has all the raw attributes and natural talent needed to thrive in this side. He just needs to build up some confidence, and develop a greater understanding and level of familiarity with his new teammates. 

The 24-year-old does need something positive to go his way in an Arsenal shirt soon, though, if only to ease some of the pressure that’s building up around him and quieten the speculation around whether or not he was a smart signing for the Gunners to make in the first place. 

Mikel Arteta has plan for Kai Havertz

Andros Townsend certainly feels that the 39-cap Germany international will ultimately prove his quality.

Speaking on The Monday Night Club podcast, the 32-year-old free agent said, “who are we to be sitting here and write that signing off? I firmly believe that there is a big masterplan for Kai Havertz that we have not seen yet.”

It will take time for Havertz to adapt to life at Arsenal and become comfortable with Arteta’s tactical demands of him. He is being used regularly now in a midfield role, rather than leading the line as he often did for Chelsea.

If everything clicks into place for Havertz, though, then he has the capacity to have a huge impact for the Gunners. After the level of investment the club have made into this deal, they need to remain patient with the player.
