Above Real Madrid: Opta power rankings now show exactly how high Arteta has taken Arsenal

Football statistics and data company Opta have ranked Arsenal fourth in the world in their latest club power rankings.

As demonstrated by Opta Analyst, Opta’s latest power Rankings see Arsenal rise to fourth in the world.

This puts Arsenal now one place ahead of Spanish giants Real Madrid. Reigning Premier League champions Manchester City currently lead the field, with Liverpool second and Bayern Munich third, before the Gunners are placed.

Real Madrid come fifth, with Inter Milan, Napoli, RB Leipzig, Barcelona, and Manchester United rounding out the top ten.

The Opta power rankings are an attempt to use data and statistics to determine which are the strongest and weakest teams in world football at any one time. Teams are given a score out of 100, and then ranked in order accordingly. Arsenal have been scored at 93.6.

This ranking shows how far the Gunners have come under the guidance of Mikel Arteta in recent seasons. From back to back eighth-place finishes in the Premier League, the Spanish coach has cultivated an exciting young squad containing plenty of Hale End academy graduates, has brought Champions League football back to the Emirates Stadium, and turned the north London club into genuine title contenders once more.

Plaudits all round at Arsenal

However, credit deserves to be dolled out beyond Arteta. Young stars such as Gabriel Martinelli and Bukayo Saka have played a huge role in this rise, performing to an incredible level beyond what can be expected given their youth on a consistent basis.

Sporting director Edu has also overseen a period of effective recruitment. The likes of Gabriel Jesus, Oleksandr Zinchenko, and Ben White, amongst others, have been brought in and had a transformative effect at Arsenal.

Arsenal have also been willing to back up their ambition with big spending. The club’s hierarchy sanctioned a record £105 million move for Declan Rice this summer.

All in all, these Opta power rankings show what has been obvious to anyone watching for the last two years: Arsenal are a club rapidly on the up.
