Report: Arsenal are now open to selling 'frustrated' player amidst PL interest

A big week lays ahead for Arsenal as they attempt to offload a number of players before the transfer deadline, but an unexpected sale may now take place.

Emile Smith Rowe was linked with Chelsea yesterday in what would be a shock move, and it has now emerged that Arsenal are open to selling the player.

It is not yet confirmed whether this means that they would be willing to do business with Chelsea, but The Times have reported that a sale could be made given the 23-year-old’s lack of game time this season.

“Arsenal, meanwhile, are willing to sell midfielder Emile Smith Rowe after an approach from Chelsea. The 23-year-old has been frustrated that he has not appeared in the three opening league matches and played only three minutes in the FA Community Shield win on penalties against Manchester City,” the report has claimed.

“Smith Rowe has been offered to other unnamed Premier League clubs. Arsenal have not put a valuation on Smith Rowe but he is among the players who could be sold to recoup money after spending about £170 million net this summer.”

Arsenal should not even consider Chelsea deal

After what has been a promising window, with David Raya, Declan Rice, Kai Havertz and Jurrien Timber all coming in, the mood amongst the fanbase could be ruined if Smith Rowe is sold, and if he joins Chelsea, it could be a disastrous move.

The report hints that Arsenal want to recoup some of their significant outlay this summer, and given that £65m was spent to sign Havertz from Chelsea, selling them a player in a similar position for what might be a similar or even lower fee, would be outrageously poor business from Mikel Arteta and Edu Gaspar.

Havertz has been disappointing in his opening three games, but he could still take time to settle and it is too early to write him off. However, Smith Rowe, who plays in a similar position to the German, deserves a chance to prove himself after a year of injury struggles.

The 23-year-old scored 10 league goals in his last full season for the club, higher than any total Havertz managed for Chelsea, whilst he is also arguably a better dribbler and more creative on the ball. Whilst Havertz may have his uses, there is definitely room for Smith Rowe within the squad.

Selling an academy product as popular as Smith Rowe to a direct rival in Chelsea would be a move that does not sit well with a lot of fans, and it would only increase the pressure on Havertz and Arteta to justify the decision with results.

At this point, there is no benefit in selling the England international, and Arsenal should not even consider any offer from Chelsea.
