Leandro Trossard touts 2 Premier League title rivals for Arsenal beyond Man City

Leandro Trossard believes Chelsea and Liverpool might rival Arsenal and Manchester City to win the 2023/24 Premier League title having both made ‘some good signings’.

The 28-year-old admires how the Blues and Reds have improved their teams under Mauricio Pochettino and Jurgen Klopp this summer. But Trossard states Arsenal also have enough to challenge Manchester City having shown they can ‘go toe-to-toe’ with Pep Guardiola’s team.

Arsenal ran the Citizens closest for the title last season and even enjoyed 248 days atop the Premier League table. A poor end to their campaign ultimately cost Mikel Arteta’s men. The Gunners only won three of their final nine matches to see out the season five points behind.

Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester City have all strengthened

Failing to hold on to leads at Liverpool and West Ham United denied Arsenal what appeared to be guaranteed wins. They led until the 87th minute at Anfield and took a two-goal lead in 10 minutes at the Irons. Bukayo Saka also saved a 90th-minute draw against Southampton.

Arteta responded to his side’s end-of-season plight by signing Kai Havertz, Jurrien Timber, Declan Rice and David Raya. He will now hope Arsenal finish the 2023/24 campaign strongly. The Gunners also let a top-four finish slip through their fingers at the end of the 21/22 term.

But Chelsea have spent heavily once again this summer by signing Moises Caicedo, Robert Sanchez, Romeo Lavia, Christopher Nkunku, Nicolas Jackson and Axel Disasi. Liverpool have also added Alexis Mac Allister, Dominik Szoboszlai and Wataru Endo after their poor season.

Manchester City have also refreshed Guardiola’s squad with moves for Mateo Kovacic, Josko Gvardiol and Jeremy Doku. The Citizens will hope their arrivals help to replace Riyad Mahrez and Aymeric Laporte as the Etihad Stadium natives attempt to defend their European treble.

But it is down to Arsenal to maintain last term’s momentum and challenge Manchester City for the Premier League title again as far as Trossard is concerned. Even if the Belgian senses Pochettino and Klopp’s signings will now drag Chelsea and Liverpool back into the title race.

“We have all the respect for what they achieved last season,” Trossard told Arsenal’s official website. “We know how they’ve performed in the Premier League. But it’s down to us.

“We have such a great squad with so much quality and if the game plan is there and we perform at our best, we can challenge them. We always want to go toe-to-toe with them. Other teams in the Premier League have added players, as well.

“It’s hard to say who will be in the title race because it’s a long run and you never know what will happen in a season. I think Liverpool and Chelsea have made some good signings in the market. But we want to win every game and that’s the mindset of how we go into games.”
