Report: ‘Unique’ Arsenal outcast now offered cut-price escape route by desperate manager

Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers is now demanding the Hoops target a transfer for Kieran Tierney of Arsenal. The Bhoys even believe the Gunners will soon take a cut-price bid.

That is according to TEAMtalk, which claims that Rodgers is desperate to sign Tierney. Celtic also know that Arsenal are keen to sell the 26-year-old before the window ends. He is not a key part of manager Mikel Arteta’s side at Emirates Stadium and may now return to Glasgow.

Arsenal signed Tierney from Celtic in August 2019 under Unai Emery for a Scottish record of £25m. The left-back has since played 124 times for the north Londoners and has offered 14 assists. But Arteta omitted Tierney from his team against Nottingham Forest last Saturday.

Rodgers urges Celtic to secure Tierney’s transfer from Arsenal

Arteta lost faith in Tierney following the arrival of Oleksandr Zinchenko last summer. He even also chose Jurrien Timber as a left-back over the Scotland star before the Dutchman’s ACL injury. While right-back Takehiro Tomiyasu and centre-half Jakub Kiwior also provide depth.

Nonetheless, Arsenal slapped a £30m price tag on Tierney following interest from Newcastle United in his transfer this summer. The Toon baulked at paying the figure and switched focus to Chelsea’s Lewis Hall once the Gunners opposed the Magpies’ idea of a loan-to-buy move.

Arsenal have no interest in letting Tierney leave on loan with an obligation to buy the 38-cap international next year. Yet Celtic believe the Gunners will soon ease their stance and accept a lower offer as the window winds down. So, they will bide their time before tabling any bid.

Rodgers knows how to get the ‘unique’ defender to deliver

Rodgers is desperate to reunite with Tierney at Celtic having also targeted his transfer from Arsenal whilst at Leicester City. So, the coach is urging the Bhoys to agree to terms with the Gunners for his return to Glasgow. Tierney played 127 games under Rodgers while at Celtic.

Tierney ultimately left his boyhood club as a five-time Premiership champion following 170 first-team appearances. He also offered 37 assists, plus eight goals, across all competitions with the Bhoys. While Rodgers praised Tierney as a ‘unique’ player for his robust approach.
