Arsenal teenager Charlie Patino is heading towards a permanent exit from the club this summer, but the Gunners will seek to include a buyback clause in any transfer.

The 19-year-old was regarded as one of the best prospects in the Arsenal academy, and a productive loan at Blackpool last season perhaps indicated a bright future for him, bur he has decided to leave in favour of more first-team opportunities.

The signings of Declan Rice and Kai Havertz mean that there is no room for Patino in the current midfield, and leaving would be the best option for him.

Arsenal could attract a good fee for the wonderkid, but it has now been reported that they will seek to insert a buyback clause in any deal.

Journalist David Stowell has claimed that Arsenal want a buyback clause in any sale, with it currently unclear where his next destination will be.

Arsenal to follow Manchester City’s lead?

The Gunners can take a look at the way the Champions have handled some of their top young talents when it comes to Patino.

The teenager’s desire to leave permanently has scuppered any chances of a loan, but a sale for a healthy fee, with a buyback clause, will follow what Man City have done with the likes of Romeo Lavia and James Trafford.

If Patino is sold, either domestically or abroad, it would be worth shaving some money off the transfer fee to insert buyback and sell-on clauses, and once Patino gains more experience, Arsenal could use one of these options should they wish to bring him back.

Patino scored on his Arsenal debut two years ago, and has been described as “outstanding” by his former boss at Blackpool, but there is little room for development now as Mikel Arteta’s side aim to challenge for the title again, and a transfer could suit all parties.
