Man City aim unnecessary digs at Arteta and Arsenal on their official website

Arsenal and Manchester City are in a two-horse race to win the Premier League title this season, and the defending champions appear to have aimed a few digs at the Gunners and our manager.

Mikel Arteta‘s men have been absolutely sensational this season. We’ve been the best team in England and the fact that we’ve done that with one of the youngest starting XIs in Europe makes it all the more impressive.

City definitely didn’t expect us to be where we are, and they are feeling the pressure.

Manchester City aim unnecessary digs at Mikel Arteta and Arsenal

Manchester City have been the most dominant club in the Premier League for years now.

The Cityzens have won four of the last five league titles, four League Cups, two Community Shields and an FA Cup under Pep Guardiola since the start of the 2017/18 campaign.

There is no doubt that they started this season as the favourites to win them all again, but Arsenal have been the surprise package in the Premier League this campaign, and we are currently eight points above them in the table.

In an article on their official website titled ‘City and Arsenal: An unlikely Premier League connection’, the champions decided to throw a few jabs our away.

At the start, they write: “City and Arsenal have spent much of the Premier League era operating in different echelons. While City have dominated English football over the last 11 seasons, Arsenal have lost their status as one of the clubs representing our league across Europe.”

Then, they have a pop at Arteta, claiming that City continued to win without him after he left them to become our manager back in December 2019. To finish it off, they seem to take credit for Arsenal being on top of the Premier League table – because they sold Oleksandr Zinchenko and Gabriel Jesus to us last summer.

“The Blues have continued to win without Arteta, lifting two of the three Premier League titles available since then. But until this year, with Zinchenko and Jesus in their ranks, the Gunners have not been a serious threat to our league crown.”

The Insider’s View:

As many fans on social media would say, they’re rattled!

This was such an unnecessary move by Manchester City when there is a lot of mutual respect between Arteta and Guardiola. The Arsenal boss even played a big part in helping City become the side they are today.

Perhaps, they are still annoyed that he left them to join Arsenal three years ago, and the fact that he lured Jesus and Zinchenko to the Emirates and made the Gunners title contenders wouldn’t have gone down well either.

If Arsenal can keep going and win the Premier League this season, these words from Manchester City will be fun to look back on.
