Tottenham Hotspur are on the verge of sacking Antonio Conte, and we must say, the Italian’s legacy at Spurs is nowhere near as good as Unai Emery’s at Arsenal.

Emery joined the Gunners back in the summer of 2018 and was sacked 16 months later. His second season was a disaster, and Arsenal were left with no choice but to show him the door.

Conte has also been at the helm for 16 months now. The Telegraph reported yesterday that Spurs will part ways with him this week after his explosive press conference on Saturday.

Two underrated signings

Emery got a lot of transfers wrong at Arsenal. The likes of Stephan Lichtsteiner and Denis Suarez were really poor additions, while Nicolas Pepe, our club record signing, failed to live up to the hype.

However, the Spaniard signed Gabriel Martinelli and William Saliba for Arsenal. Both players are now among the best youngsters in world football, and thanks to his decision to bring them in, Arsenal’s present and future look extremely bright.

Tottenham’s future, however, looks worse than it was when Conte was appointed.

Debuts to Saka and Smith Rowe

Emery changed many things at Arsenal, but the one thing he stuck by was giving young players opportunities.

The 51-year-old was the man who handed Bukayo Saka and Emile Smith Rowe their Arsenal debuts, and they’re both absolute stars of the English game now.

Saka, in particular, is the best young player in the world, and we have Emery to thank for giving him an opportunity when he was just 17 years old.

European final

Emery took Arsenal to the final of the Europa League in his first season at the club.

Yes, we ended up losing the game in Baku, but he got us closer to silverware in just 12 months than Conte has done in over a year at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Conte may be a serial winner, but his nine career trophies as a manager are no match for Emery’s 11.

Slightly better style of football

After watching years of beautiful football under Arsene Wenger, Emery’s style of play was infuriating at times. We’re sure you remember the time when he used Lucas Torreira as a number 10.

As bad as that was, the football we played under Emery was not half as bad as Conte’s system at Tottenham.

We’ve fallen asleep watching Spurs play on more than one occasion over the last 16 months – we’re more than sure a few of their fans have as well. The Italian made Tony Pulis’ football seem more entertaining at times.

Always respectful

Arsenal suffered numerous frustrating results during Emery’s time as our head coach, but the Spaniard always defended his players and the club.

There wasn’t a single press conference in which Emery threw his players under the bus or was even slightly disrespectful to any of them.

Conte, on the other hand, attacked his players regularly, and his final words as Spurs boss may well be: “Tottenham’s story is this. 20 years there is the owner and they never won something. They are used to it.”
