Mikel Arteta says three Arsenal players definitely won't play vs Fulham

Arsenal take on Fulham in the Premier League tomorrow, and Mikel Arteta has provided an injury update on Gabriel Jesus, Leandro Trossard and Eddie Nketiah.

The Gunners remain on top of the Premier League table, five points clear of Manchester City. Pep Guardiola’s side are playing Crystal Palace at the time of writing.

Irrespective of what happens in that game, Arsenal have to win tomorrow, and we’ll have to find a way to do it without a natural centre-forward.

Mikel Arteta shares Arsenal injury update on Jesus, Nketiah and Trossard

Arsenal have had their fair share of injury issues this season, but we’ve dealt with them very well.

Thomas Partey and Oleksandr Zinchenko have missed a combined 16 games for the Gunners this season, while Jesus hasn’t kicked a ball since the World Cup. Our two other strikers, Nketiah and Trossard, have also had issues recently.

Arteta has now shared the latest on the trio.

He told Arsenal.com: “Eddie is out as well, so we have Gabby out, Eddie out and Leo out. We have to adapt at this period of the season.

“We can play with a winger more as a nine, or a false nine. We will see.”

Revealing more about Jesus, he said: “He had a bad injury and he’s been really pushing the boundaries and trying to get that recovery as quick and smooth as possible.

“The reality is when he’s started to do some activities, he’s still feeling that he needs a little bit of time. Is it a matter of days? Hopefully yes, more than a matter of weeks. The moment he is ready, he will be thrown onto the field.

“The timescale that he had has been respected and it’s now more about his feelings, and when he actually demands he wants to be part of it.”

The Insider’s View

Jesus, Trossard and Nketiah will all definitely miss the game against Fulham tomorrow.

That is a big worry, but the huge positive is the fact that all three players should be back fit very soon. That would be perfect as we head into the final two months of the season after the international break.

As for tomorrow, Arteta has a few choices. He can go with Fabio Vieira or Emile Smith Rowe in a false-nine position to surprise Fulham, or he can just stick with Gabriel Martinelli, who is more than capable of playing up top.

We think he’ll just stick with Martinelli and deploy Bukayo Saka and Smith Rowe either side of him. That’s enough firepower to get us a result at Craven Cottage tomorrow.
