Arsenal's last six number 21s as Fabio Vieira poses in new shirt

Arsenal have completed the signing of Fabio Vieira on a long-term contract, and the talented midfielder has been given the Number 21 shirt.

The 22-year-old can play as a number 10, in central midfield and also out wide. He showed last season that he’s a real threat in the final third, scoring seven goals and providing 16 assists in 39 appearances across all competitions.

We just can’t wait to see Vieira in Arsenal’s colours, and the number 21 shirt is an interesting choice. The last six players who donned that number on their back weren’t really superstars that we hope the ex-Porto man will become in the coming years.

Last six Arsenal players to wear Fabio Vieira’s number 21 shirt

Calum Chambers:

Chambers was the last Arsenal player to wear the number 21 shirt.

He donned it first from 2014 to 2018 and then again from 2019 until he left earlier this year. The Englishman played 120 games for us in all competitions and managed to win an FA Cup and a Community Shield.

Lukasz Fabianksi:

The Pole wore the number 21 shirt from 2007 to 2014. He made 78 appearances for us in all competitions and played a massive part in helping us win the FA Cup just before he left on a free transfer eight years ago.

Mart Poom:

Remember him? The Estonian goalkeeper was given the number 21 shirt in 2005 and kept hold of it for two years. He only ever played twice for Arsenal and managed to keep a clean sheet in each of his appearances.

Jermaine Pennant:

Pennant donned the number 21 shirt between 2001 and 2003, and then again in the 2004/05 campaign. He played 26 times for us in all competitions before moving to Birmingham City on a permanent deal in the summer of 2005.

Tomas Danilevicius:

If you didn’t remember Mart Poom, we’re pretty sure you’ll struggle to identify who Danilevicius is. The Lithuanian centre-forward joined us in 2000 and was given the number 21 shirt. He only played 43 minutes of football for Arsenal before leaving in 2003.

Luís Boa Morte:

The last player on our list is Boa Morte, someone Fabio Silva would know thanks to his nationality. The Portugal international spent two years at Arsenal and played 36 times in all competitions. He won the Premier League and the FA Cup before leaving in 1999.
