£150m La Liga star, ex-Chelsea ace: Five transfers Arsenal fans don't want this summer at all

If early reports are to be true, Arsenal are set to be one of the busiest sides in the transfer window this summer, with the Gunners reportedly wanting to sign two strikers, a central midfielder and a new right-back.

With Eddie Nketiah set to sign a mega £100k-a-week contract with Arsenal according to the Daily Mail, Mikel Arteta’s search for two strikers has suddenly dwindled to just one, yet the other positions listed above remain key areas for the Gunners to target.

The likes of Youri Tielemans, Djed Spence and Gabriel Jesus have been heavily linked with moves to Arsenal this summer, yet this feature is not about the players’ fans want to see arrive at the Emirates, rather, the names who give fans the opposite feeling.

Whilst supporters initially had these thoughts over Ben White and Aaron Ramsdale last summer before the pair went on to become superb signings for Arsenal, here are five players who Gooners are hopeful Arteta and Edu Gaspar won’t be recruiting this year.

Samuel Umtiti

The year is 2022, and for some reason, Arsenal are still linked with a move for FC Barcelona defender Samuel Umtiti, who according to reports is on the Gunners’ radar as Xavi Hernandez looks to find any club willing enough to take the French defender off his hands.

Whilst Umtiti could return to his former world-class self at the right club, Arsenal are hardly in a position to offer the 2018 FIFA World Cup winners the platform to rehabilitate himself, with the Gunners stacked in the centre-back position and likely unwilling to match the defender’s wages.

Arthur Melo

The January transfer window was dominated by news of Arsenal’s hunt for a central midfielder and a striker, positions that were not filled out in the winter, yet according to reports, the Gunners came close to Juventus star Arthur Melo, a player Arteta is still interested in.

The Brazilian international has been deemed surplus to requirements for the Serie A giants this summer. And whilst Arsenal do need a central midfielder, Arthur’s inconsistent performances, wages and injury record mean that the north London side shouldn’t be eyeing the South American at all.

Eden Hazard

Arguably the most bizarre rumour of the window so far, Eden Hazard is reportedly on Arsenal’s radar this summer, with Real Madrid desperate to offload their £150m signing just three years after bringing him from Chelsea.

The Belgian international has been a colossal flop for the La Liga giants, with injuries ruining Hazard’s time in the Spanish capital so badly that the winger’s reputation has been tarnished beyond repair. And for Arsenal, the thought of the Gunners signing the attacker seems foolish even for Arteta and Edu’s standards.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin

Like Arthur, Dominic Calvert-Lewin was heavily linked with a move to Arsenal in January, and reports seem to indicate that the Everton star is still on the Gunners transfer list this summer, despite a poor season from the England international.

Injuries have plagued the Toffees’ talisman’s campaign, and with Arsenal, a team where bumps and bruises seem to affect even the sturdiest of players, we all know Calvert-Lewin will become something of a sick note in north London should Arteta move for the Everton man.

Alvaro Morata

Whilst Arsenal fans wouldn’t want Calvert-Lewin for his injury record and poor form this season, supporters will certainly not want Alvaro Morata based on his finishing ability and former ties to Chelsea, though that hasn’t stopped the Gunners before.

A player Arteta is reportedly fighting Juventus to sign this summer, many Arsenal fans will be relieved if the Serie A giants manage to beat the Gunners to Morata’s signature, with most supporters likely against the Spaniard from returning to London this summer.
