According to a report from The Telegraph, Arsenal will try to appoint Antonio Conte as the club’s new manager if Mikel Arteta cannot turn things around in the coming weeks.

The Gunners have started the new Premier League season with back-to-back 2-0 defeats. The pressure is well and truly on Arteta at the moment, with some fans calling for his head already.

Arsenal will not make any drastic decisions just yet, but the report claims that if Arteta cannot turn things around before the international break in October, he will be shown the door, just like Unai Emery was before him.

Arsenal want Antonio Conte to replace Arteta

The report claims that if Arteta leaves the board no choice but to sack him, former Chelsea and Inter Milan boss Conte will be our priority target.

The Italian has been without a job since leaving the Nerazzurri at the end of last season. He helped Inter win the Scudetto in fantastic style, and there’s no doubt in anyone’s mind that he’s one of the best managers in world football.

If Arteta does end up facing the sack, a manager like Conte would be almost every fan’s dream. However, would Stan Kroenke ever sanction an appointment like this? We don’t think so!

The Insider’s View:

One of Conte’s best (or worst) qualities is that he doesn’t hold anything back – with his players or in front of the media. If he’s not happy with the board or the ownership, he will make it absolutely clear in one of his press conferences.

Knowing Silent Stan and the way he operates, there’s no way he will agree to this. He prefers managers to maintain a united front in the public eye, even if they don’t want to, but sadly, Conte is not one to bow down.

As Arsenal fans, let’s just hope Arteta can turn things around in the coming weeks. Sacking the Spaniard would be a very simple decision for the board, but can we really trust them to appoint a genuine world-class manager? We can’t!
