Arsenal confirmed yesterday that Konstantinos Mavropanos has returned to Stuttgart for another year on loan in Germany.
The Greek international had a solid campaign in the Bundesliga last season. He was one of Stuttgart’s best players, and Gooners were hugely impressed by his performances there. All of us hoped to see Mavropanos in an Arsenal shirt this year, but that will not happen now.
Mikel Arteta has turned his attention to Ben White and that has cost Mavropanos his Arsenal career. The Greek international will spend another 12 months on loan in Germany, and Stuttgart have an option to buy him as well, for almost nothing.
Arsenal chief Edu agrees to sell Konstantinos Mavropanos for just £3m
David Ornstein revealed on The Athletic yesterday that Stuttgart are obligated to sign the Greek warrior for a base fee of just £3 million if they remain in the Bundesliga next year. If they face relegation, they will only have an option to sign him for the same fee.
That is terrible business by Arsenal. Yes, Mavropanos is no Sergio Ramos, but to sell him for just £3 million is as bad as it can possibly get.
Arsenal have never really been great sellers. Apart from Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Alex Iwobi’s sales to Liverpool and Everton respectively, we haven’t sold anybody for big money, and that is not a good look at all.
The terms of Mavropanos’ deal really is shocking. Arsenal fans, predictably, are fuming.
