Arsenal predicted starting XI v Sheff Utd: Two star players drop out, 19-year-old given chance to impress

Arsenal will be keen to get back to winning ways when they head to Sheffield United on Sunday night.

The Gunners have drawn two and lost two of their last four games in all competitions.

The Blades may be well adrift at the bottom of the Premier League table, but they know how to put in a good performance and claim shock results.

Just under three months ago, they ran out 2-1 winners over Manchester United at Bramall Lane, while both their losses to Manchester City were by one goal.

In addition, the Europa League quarter-final second leg is by far the biggest game of the season so far for the Gunners, so Mikel Arteta will probably prioritise that over the Blades in terms of team selection.

With that in mind, who could be in the Arsenal starting XI on Sunday night?

Given Kieran Tierney’s injury, Cedric Soares will likely fill in at left back – Joel Lopez has been training with the first team but chances are he’ll be an option off the bench for now.

Gabriel Magalhaes has looked shaky in recent weeks so Pablo Mari could take his place alongside Rob Holding, while Calum Chambers is fit again and is a good shout on the right to deal with United’s aerial threat.

Thomas Partey also didn’t look particularly sharp in midweek, so Mohamed Elneny could pair up with Granit Xhaka in midfield instead.

Arteta has a dilemma at No. 10, with Emile Smith Rowe and Martin Odegaard both being assessed ahead of Sunday’s game.

If neither of them are fit, then Willian could potentially fill in, having played behind the striker a few times earlier this season.

Bukayo Saka could do with a rest, with Nicolas Pepe a good shout to take his place on the right, and if ever there was a good game to give Gabriel Martinelli a start, Sunday would be it.

Finally, we reckon Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang will return to the XI and start up front, so the 19-year-old Brazilian would – if we’re correct – start on the left flank.
