Arsenal sensation Gabriel Martinelli is set to make his long-awaited return tonight with the Arsenal under-23s in their game against AFC Wimbledon in the Papa John’s Trophy, according to Football London.

The teenager joined us at the start of last season from Ituano for just £6 million. (Goal) Not many people had heard about Martinelli, who had only featured in the fourth division of Brazilian football.

However, after a few games in an Arsenal shirt, the world stood up to take notice. Martinelli scored 10 goals and provided four assists in 13 starts for us last season. He became an instant hit among fans and earned a new contract as well earlier this year.

Martinelli spent two games as an unused substitute in the Premier League after Project Restart. He suffered a knee injury in training in June and he has been on the sidelines ever since.

Arsenal fans have been praying for his speedy recovery. Martinelli has immense potential and his fearless style of play made him a joy to watch. His goal against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge is still fresh in memory, and he will be a valuable option when he returns to the first team.

Gabi is back

Martinelli’s first test is with the under-23s tonight. He will reportedly feature for 45-60 minutes against Wimbledon to help him get back to full fitness – something all of us are desperate to see.

It will take a couple of weeks at the very least for the Brazilian to be ready to play for the first team. His return is highly anticipated, and many feel that he is the man to solve our goalscoring woes in the Premier League.
