Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang wants Arsenal to lay out just how bright the future is before he will pen a new deal to stay at the Emirates Stadium. The Gabonese striker is on the brink of making a decision regards his future and has been frank in his suggestion that he needs an act of commitment from head coach Mikel Arteta and the club bosses as to how the future will pan out in terms of a desire to snare silverware.

The Gunners skipper turns 31 on June 18 and has stated that at this point of his career the decision he will make will be the most important he has ever had to ponder. He has a year remaining on his current contract with the North London giants and if he doesn’t sign an extension the club will be forced to sell him rather than miss out on any financial return when he becomes a free agent.

Aubameyang says Arsenal have the keys to unlock the door to a satisfactory conclusion to the matter. Fans are desperate to see their star player stay at the club — his record shows that the Gunners would miss him and his goal threat if he was to depart. The mercurial marksman has hit 61 goals in 97 appearances for the Londoners since joining from Borussia Dortmund back in 2018.

And he said in a recent interview with French football show Telefoot:

“I haven’t had an offer recently, but I did speak to the club quite a few months ago, and they know why nothing has happened yet. It’s a turning point in my career and I want to be honest with everyone. Arsenal have the keys. It is up to them to do their work and, after that, we will see how things go. It’ll certainly be a very difficult decision to make.”

Aubameyang gets the chance to get his shooting boots back in action this coming Wednesday when the Premier League gets back under way after the suspension put in place by the Covid-19 crisis. The Gunners go to the Etihad Stadium in the first match of the re-start. Arsenal will try to push on and snare a Champions League place while City, who are in second place in the league table standings, can only realistically finish as runners-up to league leaders Liverpool who are 25 points ahead of their rivals.

The new normal for football on its return after the coronavirus pandemic will see games unfold at empty grounds with fans banned from watching their heroes in action live and instead having to make do with a fest of football on TV screens.
