There is no doubt that the Porsche 997 GT3 is a beauty and a beast straight from the factory. Even so, a fresh set of wheels can really elevate this car’s unique DNA and set it apart from the pack. Our customer Todd Nall (IG: @blackhorseturbo) was looking for a fresh wheel setup for his own 997 GT3 and opted for custom VR Forged D03 wheels in a stunning Satin Bronze finish. The bronze color really contrasts the bright Guards Red Porsche paint beautifully and gives it that track-inspired feel.
The D03 VR Forged monoblock wheel features a one-piece forged construction that showcases a sultry, thin-spoke design with our signature V accent around the lug pattern. The detailed machine work near the center of the wheel draws your eye and turns it outward to the elegance of the slender spoke design. These lightweight Forged Wheels were manufactured using a 10,000-ton press, so you can rely on them to be incredibly strong for those more spirited driving events. These custom forged wheels have the knurling done on the bead seats so you won’t experience any issues with spinning tires on the rim.
We crafted custom 19-inch D03 wheels for Todd: 19×8.5 +45mm (9.5 kg or 20.9 lbs) at the front and 19×12 +63mm (11 kg or 24.2 lbs) at the rear. We also made him 18×12 (10 kg or 22.0 lbs) rear wheels for his drag tires for when he is competing in half-mile or roll racing events. The overall weight savings is a really good amount when you compare it to the OEM 19-inch wheels on the Porsche GT3, and that certainly helps a lot too. For reference, the stock wheels on the Porsche 997 GT3 are 19×8.5 (24 lbs. 5 oz.) and 19×12 (30 lbs 13 oz.). This wheel is available in our shop in Gunmetal, Matte Black, and Satin Bronze finishes.
And if you look closely at the D03 wheels on his 997 GT3, you’ll notice we engraved the word “BlackHorseTurbo” on it for Todd. That has been his nickname for years in the Porsche world dating all the way back to 2007. Black Horse is the neighborhood he lived in in Texas and “turbo” comes from him having owned a 996 Turbo.
