National League Betting – 23rd December 2018

Following a week off for FA Trophy fixtures, the National League returns with some pre-festive fixtures and we’ve taken a look at some of the betting in the key clashes.

AFC Fylde vs Ebbsfleet
AFC Fylde have recruited former Wigan coach Graham Barrow as their head of football development as they bid to build upon their promising start to the season. Fylde have a perfectly symmetrical record coming into this fixture of seven wins, seven draws and seven defeats from their first 21 matches. They are 6/5 with Betfair to make it an eight success of the campaign.

Ebbsfleet were delivered a blow when popular defender Yado Mambo was forced to retire due to a persistent knee injury this week. Mambo hasn’t played much of a part this season but his former side have kept consecutive clean sheets in the National League coming into this contest. Their away form could be better but they are 19/10 with Boylesports to improve that record.

Danny Rowe is the division’s joint highest goalscorer with 11 goals this season and he could find the target once again here. He is 6/5 with Bet365 to find the back of the net here.

Bromley vs Macclesfield
Bromley sealed their place in the second round of the FA Trophy with a straightforward victory over Hartley Wintney last weekend. Previously, they’d been involved in a 4-4 draw with Eastleigh and they must defend much more effectively as they welcome high-flying Macclesfield to Hayes Lane. The hosts can be backed at 8/5 with Betfred for this clash.

Macclesfield put in a tremendously eye-catching performance to beat Wrexham 4-1 a fortnight ago and they come into this fixture top of the table. They have won 13 of their 24 fixtures this season and will be looking to extend that gap at the summit. They are joint 8/5 favourites with 888Sport for this game.

Scott Wilson has been in excellent form this season for the visitors and netted an 82 minutes hat-trick during the aforementioned 4-1 success. He is priced at 2/1 with Bet365 to find the back of the net again.

Dagenham vs Eastleigh
It was a poor weekend for Dagenham who were eliminated from the FA Trophy by Hereford. John Still’s side were defeated 3-2 at Edgar Street as their poor form on the road continued. In the league, they have improved enormously over the past month and are aiming for a 5th straight victory here. The Daggers could go second with a victory here and are 6/11 with 888Spot to do so.

Eastleigh remain entrenched in their relegation battle despite making a number of signings throughout the first month of the season. They have failed to win any of their last five games but they have a knack of picking up plenty of draws. Richard Hill’s side have drawn three of the last four and it’s 3/1 with Paddy Power to occur again.

The Spitfires have scored 31 times this season but their problems remain at the other end where they have shipped 36. They drew 4-4 two weeks ago and Dagenham have plenty of goals in their side. Over 2.5 Goals is priced at 4/6 with Betfred.

Guiseley vs Aldershot
After initial hope under their new management, Guiseley have slowly started to slip down the table again and they come into this fixture second bottom of the National League. Paul Cox’s side have lost four in a row and have failed to score in either of their last two home games. It doesn’t get any easier as they welcome high-flying Aldershot to West Yorkshire. Their lack of firepower against the top sides is a problem and Both Teams to Score? No is priced at Evens with Betfair.

Aldershot are hoping to follow in the footsteps of Sutton, Macclesfield and Bromley, all top six sides who have won here over the past couple of the months. The visitors have the 4th best record on the road so far this campaign and they are 19/20 with 888Sport to pick up three points.

Shamir Fenelon is Aldershot’s top goalscorer and he will see this as the ideal chance to grab his 7th of the campaign. He is priced at 7/4 to find the back of the net here with Bet365.

Halifax vs Chester
Halifax got back to winning ways in unexpected fashion two weeks ago when they beat Aldershot by a single goal and kept a clean sheet in the process. They have not been in good form and slipped down into mid-table but the tide appears to have been stemmed. They will be aiming for successive victories against struggling Chester and are Evens with Boylesports.

Despite their lowly position, Chester are unbeaten in three of their last four games and are hoping to propel themselves out of the bottom four with a win here. They have drawn their last two away matches in the National League and it is 23/10 with 888Sport for them to bag another point on their travels here.

Both sides kept clean sheets last time and they will be hoping for defensive solidity once again. Under 2.5 Goals is priced at 4/5 with Paddy Power.

Hartlepool vs Maidenhead
Hartlepool were embarrassed in the FA Trophy last weekend as they were knocked out by in-form Workington. The minnows arrived in decent form and knocked out the North East outfit. Craig Harrison must improve his side’s fortunes and he has vowed to turn things around but fans are becoming a bit impatient. A defeat here could see the boss in a lot of trouble. The hosts are 6/5 with Betfair to end their poor run of form here.

Maidenhead have proved to be the draw specialists of the National League in recent weeks with four draws in their last five matches. They’ve picked up a point at Woking, Eastleigh and Dover in recent months and are 11/5 with Betfred to do the same again.

Although Hartlepool’s home form has been incredibly inconsistent, they have managed to find the net in four of their last five matches here. Both Teams to Score? Yes is 4/6 with Paddy Power.

Maidstone vs Leyton Orient
Despite sitting on the brink of the play-offs, Maidstone’s overall form is not particularly impressive. They have not won any of their last four matches and picked up just two points from that run of fixtures. They must mastermind a victory against Leyton Orient and keep their hopes of finishing in the top half alive. They are 11/10 with Boylesports to collect three points here.

Leyton Orient employed the effective of the new manager bounce two weeks ago as they picked up three points for the first time under Justin Edinburgh. The former Gillingham boss guided his side to a thumping 4-1 success and he will be hoping his team can do the same again on the road. They are priced at 9/4 with 888Sport.

Macauley Bonne scored a double during that success against Sutton moving the youngster onto 11 goals for the season and he is priced at 13/8 with Bet365 to add to his collection for the season.

Solihull Moors vs Boreham Wood
Despite an upturn in form, Solihull Moors still sit bottom of the table and are in real danger of slipping out of the division. They did beat Leyton Orient here at the beginning of the month but they weren’t able to add to that success away at relegation rivals Chester. Mark Yates has made his side tougher to break down and he will be hoping for more success in the Midlands. Despite that, they are 13/5 outsiders with Betfair.

Boreham Wood arrive here in excellent form and have climbed into the play-off positions as a result. They are unbeaten in five matches and will be confident of taking something from this affair. They are 21/20 with Betfred to steal all three points.

The Woodmen have netted plenty of goals over the past few weeks and have only conceded once in their last five matches. Under 2.5 Goals is priced at 8/11 with Paddy Power.

Sutton vs Tranmere
Sutton escaped with a narrow victory against Truro in the FA Trophy with fans breathing a huge sigh of relief at the full time whistle. They just cannot find consistently having lost twice in their last four matches including a disappointing defeat to lowly Torquay. They tend to raise their game for the visits of the bigger sides however and they will be confident of taking three points here. They are 13/10 with Boylesports to wrap up three points here.

Tranmere’s upturn in form has seen them move from mid-table to the brink of the play-offs. They have picked up just a single point from their last two matches on the road however and may find this tough. They’ve picked up two draws from their last three away matches and it’s 11/5 with 888Sport to end all square again.

Andy Cook has eight goals to his name this season and has been priced up as 6/4 favourite in the anytime goalscorer market.

Woking vs Barrow
Woking boss Anthony Limbrick admitted his side never really got going in the FA Trophy and he’ll be hoping his troops are quicker out of the blocks during their home tie with Barrow. They have the fourth best home form in the league and got back to winning ways against Ebbsfleet last time out. They are 29/20 with Betfred to continue their fine form in Surrey.

Barrow have been fairly inconsistent since Ady Pennock took over in Cumbria but have developed a knack of winning on the road. They have won each of their last three matches on their travels including successes against Halifax, Gateshead and Eastleigh. They can be backed at 17/10 with Boylesports.

Both sides are arriving in decent form and should be confident of picking up maximum points. Over 2.5 Goals is priced at 17/20 with Bet365.

Wrexham vs Dover
Wrexham are still competing at the top of the table but they’ve lost two of their last three matches in the National League and will need to bounce back from their humbling at the hands of Macclesfield. The Welsh outfit have only lost once at home this season and conceded just six times so far. They are 11/8 with Boylesports to pick up all three points here.

Dover are also having a decent campaign and sit 4th coming into this fixture. They got back to winning ways in spectacular fashion last time out with a 4-0 success against Hartlepool and will be feeling confident coming into this match. They are priced at 24/13 with 888Sport to pick up an away win at the Racecourse.

Chris Holroyd has been in decent form this season and has netted seven times. He’s particularly effective in front of his own fans and is 2/1 to find the net during the 90 minutes here.
