Co-curricular Activities are a very important part of formal education. Education is an expansive concept that surpasses the four walls of a classroom. The main aim of education is to encourage all round improvement in a student. All round improvement implies intellectual, physical, moral, sensible and social improvement. Education plays the most vital and the most fundamental role to achieve all round improvement. Hence, to accomplish these goals and objectives, there has to be harmony between the curricular activities and co-curricular activities.

Activities that fall outside the regular academic curriculum yet an important of part of school / college life can be termed as co-curricular activities. These activities give students an opportunity to know who they really are. All of us are unique and intelligence cannot and should not be judged based on how clever the student is in his / her curriculum that usually takes places inside the classroom.

These co-curricular activities such as participating in school sports team, school debating team or student newsletters, participation in these activities will surely assist the students in many ways. They, in actuality, are the completion of curricular activities and groom the students in the real examination, which is LIFE itself. They are the truest and practical approach to enhance the students’ creativity.

A Chinese proverb very aptly states, “Teach me, and I will forget. Show me, and I might remember. Involve me, and I will never forget.” The academic development of the student is largely dependent on curriculum, but the aesthetic development like character building, spiritual and moral values, physical growth, creativity and many more are backed up by co-curricular activities only.

Many students, parents and others contemplate that the theoretical syllabus is of much more prominence. According to them, educational institutes are only meant to provide education and that is how they qualify them.

Parents should know the significance of co-curricular activities and they should support their children in the participation of such activities. Co-curricular activities are vital because even though they are not a part of the core curriculum, they play a very essential role in giving the young boys and girls the skill to mold their lives to become well-rounded people.
