Zigmund Adamski working at Lofthouse Colliery was married to Leokadia Kowalska. On June 6, 1980, he went out from his home in Tingley, Yorkshire to buy some potatoes. However, he did not returned home and even failed to attend a family wedding. Five days later his body was found and police were confused.

Adamski’s body was recovered at a coal yard in Todmorden on June 11. He was discovered by Trevor Parker lying on top of a pile of coal at 3:45pm. Parker claimed he arrived at the yard at 8:00am. The yard closed at 11:00 in the morning.

Police officer Alan Godfrey arrived at the scene and noted no footprints around nor coal dust on the body. It seemed that the body fell from the sky. Godfrey also noticed that Adamski’s suit was in good condition but without his shirt. There was no trauma on his body so they concluded there was no struggle. But Adamski’s face looked contorted with terror or pain.

Adamski looked well-fed and had only one day’s worth of stubble, suggesting he was able to shave despite being away from home for five days. The authorities checked hospitals to know if he was treated in those days he was missing.

Autopsy revealed that the cause of death was heart failure between 11:15 AM and 1:15 PM on June 11. But Dr. Alan Edwards, a consultant pathologist at the Royal Halifax Infirmary could not explain the strange burns to the head, neck and back. From the burns, they recovered a trace of an unidentified gel-like ointment.

Theories surfaced to explain the Mysterious Death of Zigmund Adamski. One UFOlogist believed that the man was abducted by aliens.

The assumption was fueled when Godfrey said he encountered a UFO six months after the death of Adamski. Godfrey narrated that he was again on duty in Todmorden at 5 am investigating reports of cattle mutilation. While he was driving, he saw what he thought was a double-decker bus but upon closer looked the “bus” was suspended five feet off the ground.
