THE FIFTH STATION

The Cross is laid upon Simon of Cyrene

The Roman soldiers seized Simon of Cyrene and forced him to carry Jesus’ cross. May we learn to help others to Bear their crosses and to walk with them along the journey.

As Jesus carried the cross, he could bear it no longer.
The Romans seized Simon, whose shoulders were stronger.
Simon walked beside Jesus to the place where Jesus would die.
He watched as Jesus was nailed to the cross and lifted high.

Jesus, grant us strength to bear our crosses, and your grace proclaim.
Through all struggles, let us always bless your holy name.
May we bear with faith the sufferings that come our way.
As we bear our crosses, give us renewed strength each day.

Jesus, the burden of the cross was great. You could bear it no longer.
The Romans placed the cross on Simon because his shoulders were stronger.
The burdens of my sins are too great for me.
You have taken my burden and now I’ve been set free.
