Embrace The Chaos – Five of Wands

Tags: wands tarot chaos

Living life in the “new normal” where time passes both slowly and quickly, we greet the month of May with the Five of Wands.

FIVES in Tarot tend to be difficult cards. They often represent challenges, change, struggle, and loss. As you feel your way through these uncertain times, you may be thinking “this sounds about right”. And, while fives can be a place of judgment and conflict, they’re also a place of opportunity, growth, and transformation.

In tarot, Wands are the element of fire and are seen as action, creativity, ambition, and passion. Looking at the image in the Five of Wands, things do appear to be a little chaotic. The Five of Wands shows up and shakes things up. Old patterns are challenged, lose their hold, and break apart with a swell of new energy. It’s time for restructuring.

While there are days when the Chaos may begin to feel a bit overwhelming, there are also moments of divine inspiration, organization, clarity, and believe it or not, all-out brilliance.

While some may be binge-watching Netflix and waiting for directions on what to do next, you are seeking the next best course of action, sticking up for what you believe in, and rising to the challenge of what life has brought you.

In astrology, the Five of Wands is Saturn in Leo. When these two get together we’re in for some lessons on how we present ourselves, how we treat others, and how we embrace the creativity and drive within us. Yes, chaos and competition do come up. The Five of Wands is also about self-expression and the need to be seen. This is a good time to work on filtering our words and strengthening our intentions.

Let’s take a closer look at what’s happening in the card:

This past month, in an effort to come together and connect, I offered a free Intro to Tarot series, each week in April. Each session included a short lesson and then a brief reading for each participant. Any and all levels of tarot readers were welcome.

On the calls, we shared our thoughts and ideas on both the lesson topic and cards that I brought up for each reading. At the beginning of class, I explained that there were no wrong answers and that whatever each participant felt like sharing was worth hearing. At first, for most attendees, sharing was a scary thought. But, soon, hands were being raised and ideas were being shared.

What first seemed chaotic and too much to ask soon became a fun, creative challenge. By the end of my four-week series, I must say that I have a few impressive beginner readers. Their instinct to read the cards was there, they just needed to get creative.

Sometimes you just have to jump in!

Questions to consider:

  • How can I get creative?
  • What is my biggest challenge?
  • How is this challenge an opportunity?
  • How am I changing?
  • What inspires me?
  • How can I be more organized in the chaos?
  • What am I learning about myself?
  • How can I distinguish myself as different?

The fives in tarot are the midway point of the numbered cards in the suit – starting in the ace and ending in the ten – and can be a bit of a tipping point where things can either go one way or another. This feature makes five’s unstable, or temporary in nature.

We are currently in a similar situation. It feels unstable, but, it is only temporary. You get to choose what happens next. Will you – like my new students – see this as a creative opportunity? Will you find a new passion, undergo change, experience transformation, or learn something new (and fun)? I hope so. And, if you do, remember to jump in, and embrace the chaos.

Until soon.

The April tarot series was engaging and fun. Are you interested in learning more?
