There is much to be said for the relationship between how we Spend our time, and who we choose to spend it with. Have you recently had the chance to contemplate who you are spending quality time with, and how you are forming your ‘inner circle’? Here are eight questions you can ask about the people that are closest to you.

Do they display integrity?

Dishonesty is one of the worst traits to have to deal with. If someone in your inner circle lies about things, how can you believe they tell the truth about anything?

Can you trust them?

You need to be able to trust the people in your circle. These people will be privy to your deep secrets and your wildest ambitions. You need to be confident you can trust them.

Do they inspire you?

You want people in your circle to inspire you towards your own goals. Surround yourself with people who want to achieve similar things as you do.

Do they make you happy?

If someone doesn’t make you happy, then why would you want them in your inner circle? Surround yourself with people that you find pleasant (for the most part) to be around.

Do they add value to your life?

Make sure that the people in your life add some sort of value. This doesn’t have to be tangible value, sometimes a listening ear is as valuable as anything.

Do they positively affect others in your circle?

Your inner circle is only as strong as its weakest link. If one member of your circle tends to butt heads continuously with everyone else, then the problem probably lies with them.

Are they positive (for the most part)?

Being around people who are always miserable, tends to make you – well, miserable. Try to spend more time with those can give you a bit of a boost. Nothing is ever always ‘rosy’, but those with a more optimistic view on life can start to rub off on you.

Are they toxic?

If someone in your life is truly toxic, it means that they sap your energy and leave you feeling worse than you would if you weren’t around them. People like this can make the choice to change their ways – but if they don’t and you feel drained, feel free to walk away.
