Story of Parashuram In Gudimallam Shiva Temple

Sage Jamadagni , a wise sage along with his Renuka lived together. They had a son named as Parashuram.

One day, Sage was angry on Renuka. Because of suspicion, Sage ordered to Kill Renuka. For his father, Parashuram, beheaded his mother. Then, Sage Jamadagni gave a wish to Parashuram. Inbrief for obeying his orders for execution.

But, Parashuram made his father to give back Renuka’s life. Renuka was brought back to life.

Further, note the behaviour. And his love to mother.

But Parashuram could not overcome his guilt. His act of beheading his mother is deadly. And he felt remorse for his act. In dire need to overcome guilt, a quest for peace. And visiting Rishis in temples.

Penance to the Shiva Lingam in Gudimallam Sri Parashurameswara Temple

As a penance, he reached Gudimallam. Advised by other Rishis to worship Shiva at Gudimallam. After a long time reached the temple. In thick forests, Parashurama found the temple.

The Gudi mallam was a forest. Moreover dense vegetation is done. Further, Parasuram found the lingam in Gudi mallam.

A small pond has been made by Parashuram himself. As a wonder, a single flower would appear. Every day morning, Parashuram offered it to Shiva. Chitrasena, a manifestation of Lord Brahma. Accepting to guard the flower.

But on condition

  • animal meat
  • pot of toody.

Chitrasena was guarding the flower in Gudi mallam. On agreeing, Parashuram used to hunt animals. Obviously to keep his word lively to Chitrasena daily.

Change of Events in Gudi mallam

Whereas, Parshuram went to hunt. Furthermore, on temptation, from flower and Lord in Gudi mallam. The Chitrasena worshipping Shiva himself. Moreover, used the single flower to guard. Despite of protecting the flower. And then offered to worship Shiva. The act of words were failing. In brief, enraged Parashurama. He attacked Chitrasena on knowing the act.

Finding the events turning worse. Furthermore, the Parshuram become more fierce. Moreover, the fight was intense with the demon. In fact, When the demon was about to be die in fight. Lord Shiva appeared before them. Knowing the events, He blessed both in Gudi mallam. Along with their desire of Sayujyamukti – merging in Him.

The Shiva Lingam describes the trinity. At the base is creator. Moreover, Brahma as Chitrasena. Furthermore Parasuram in middle. Although, Vishnu as Parasurama. And Mighty Shiva in them. As the lingam forms the Gudimallam Shiva lingam. They are ritualistic in Gudi mallam.

Shrine Of Gudimallam Sri Parasurameswara Temple

The main Temple consists of an apsidal gopuram in middle. And at a low level with Ardha mandapa. Moreover a maha mandapa in the front side. All are facing east towards sun Gudi mallam. Soon higher than the previous one.

Indeed, The main entrance to the shrine is east. But, from the south side of the maha mandapa with ornamental pillars enclose the wall. The main shrine is covered inside the peristylar cloister. The vimana is so precisely designed. Built over the shrine with burnt bricks. These bricks cover the hollow inside and is apsidal of the temple. On resembling a linga nut, called as lingakruti vimana.

Moreover, a false ceiling in the temple. Moreover, seen with wooden joints. Whereas, small shrine is surrounding. And at the North-West corner is seen. And other minor shrines within the prakara is here. Sweet and simple gopuram is the west entrance of temple.

The Grainite stone temple complex is from late Pallava / Bana timings. And Cholas with records shows the gift of Kings. Yet, The earliest record is the Bana. Obviously, They are a Fendatory Royal family under the later Pallavas.The work of Yadava Devaraya (A.D. 1346) is seen in the inscriptions. The tome of Vikramachola refers the rebuilding of the temple in 1126 A.D. And along with the gopuram and the well.

The Unique Shiva Linga of Sri Parashurameswara Temple

The Temple Shiva linga is Phallic shape with astounding details. The Shiva Linga is 2,300 years old in Gudi mallam. But the story in goes back a millenia.

On its front, the linga has a phallic top. A good figure of Siva standing He has two hands with sunning beauty. The right hand holds a ram. Whereas, by the hind arm holding a staff. Head hanging downwards. On the left, a globular pot is held. Evidently, a battle axe (Parasu) on the left. The linga is fixed within two stone rings. In spite of the earliest phase inside, serving as arghapitha is neat. The standing form is of vedic aspects. And the god reveals proto-puranic concepts. He is standing on dwarf Yaksha. The Demon who fought parasuraman. His features ate unique. He is sitting on the knees. And body is shrunken. Obviously a light teethed smile.
