After the Conquest of Mecca, many tribes came to Medina to pledge their allegiance to the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). Among these tribes were the Hawazin and the Thaqif. The tribe of Hawazin was known for its strength and military power. The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) led an army of 12,000 Muslims to Hunayn to fight against the Hawazin tribe.
The Battle of Hunayn
The Muslims were overconfident because of their large army and were not expecting much resistance from the Hawazin tribe. However, they were caught off guard, and the Hawazin tribe ambushed them, causing the Muslims to flee. The Prophet Muhammad SAW and a few of his companions, including Abu Bakr and Umar, remained steadfast and fought back.Allah's Help
In the midst of the battle, Allah sent down angels to assist the Muslims, which changed the course of the battle. The Muslims regained their confidence and defeated the Hawazin tribe. The victory was significant as it marked the beginning of the end of the resistance against Islam.Quranic Verses:
The story of the Hunayn War has been mentioned in the Quran, in Surah Tawbah, verse 25-26, which states:"Indeed, Allah has given you victory on many battlefields and on the Day of Hunayn, when your great number impressed you, but it availed you not at all, and the earth was confining for you with its vastness; then you turned back, fleeing. Then Allah sent down His tranquility upon His Messenger and upon the believers and sent down armies of angels you did not see and punished those who disbelieved. And that is the recompense of the disbelievers."
