Two Unbiblical Things Still Done In Churches

Tags: psalms jesus holy

Times without number, I’ve written articles to address the issue of the ceremonious activities done in the old testament days. The only and acceptable way of worshipping the Almighty God, our Father, then, was through the strict observance of the ceremonious activities stated in the Biblical laws.

However, after the last sacrifice was made on the cross of Calvary, there was no need to come to God through those activities again. Now, the only and acceptable way of reaching our Father is through Jesus.

Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.

John 14:6

Although Jesus did not come to abolish the law, in fact, he came to fulfill them. Consequently, we are not suppose to be fulfilling all the laws he has already fulfilled on our behalf. Unfortunately, hundreds of thousands of churches all over the world are still approaching God through ceremonious activities, instead of approaching our Father through Jesus.

The Two Unbiblical Things Done In our Churches

1. The use of Holy water

2. Kabbalistic use of Psalms

The Use of Holy Water

“You shall also make a laver of bronze, with its base also of bronze, for washing. You shall put it between the tabernacle of meeting and the altar. And you shall put water in it,

for Aaron and his sons shall wash their hands and their feet in water from it.

When they go into the tabernacle of meeting, or when they come near the altar to minister, to burn an offering made by fire to the Lord, they shall wash with water, lest they die.

Exodus 30:18-20

Even though Aaron and his children were already consecrated to work for God, they dare not minister before God without washing their hands and feet. The consequences of not washing their hands and feet was death.

Of course, in the Biblical days, no man approached God anyhow. The two sons of Aaron who did ended up in the grave in no time…

Then Nadab and Abihu, the sons of Aaron, each took his censer and put fire in it, put incense on it, and offered profane fire before the Lord, which He had not commanded them.

So fire went out from the Lord and devoured them, and they died before the Lord.

Leviticus 10:1-2

To come before the altar, Moses was instructed by God to provide water in the laver made of bronze so that Aaron and his remaining two sons could wash their hands and feet. So, the essence of the Holy water is for washing, cleansing, of the Priests before they come to the altar of our Father.

That requirement of approaching God was necessary before Christ was offered as a lamb on the altar laid at Calvary. The moment he died, there was no longer need for the use of Holy water as his blood became sufficient enough to cleanse us once and for all.

But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin.

1 John 1:7

Even with the knowledge of the cleansing power of the blood of Jesus, our Churches still resort to using holy water for different purposes and for worship. In fact, some Christians believe in the use of water for healing purpose than they do for the blood of Jesus. There are churches where holy water is placed outside the church for members to sprinkle on themselves before entering the church.

Truth be told, no matter the amount of holy water one uses on oneself before approaching God, in as much as the blood of Jesus has not cleanse the person, he or she is just wasting his or her time.

Likewise for Psalms, as it has been passed down from the traditions of the early church fathers in Isreal, almost all the Christians in Africa make use of Psalms for unbelievable things which are not biblical.

Psalms are meant to be sung and used to admonish ourselves and others. Unfortunately, people who practiced Judaism in Isreal passed down their traditional use of Psalms to Christians, thereby making them do unbelievable things that are never seen or known in the Bible days.

Sing to Him, sing psalms to Him; Talk of all His wondrous works!

Psalm 105:2

David, who happened to be the Psalmist with the highest number of Psalms in the Bible, said Psalms are more or less songs one should sing to our Father.

Do you know Jesus quoted the book of Psalms more than another book of the Bible?

I told us earlier there are just more or less like songs we are to sing to God. Just as we are to sing it, so are we to use it to speak to one another.

speaking to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord,

Ephesians 5:19

This was the reason it was mandatory for religious leaders in Israel, at one point in time, to know all Psalms offhand before they became leaders. For instance, Flavius Josephus, a Jewish priest, Bible scholar and historian knew all Psalms offhand and ensured all his protegee did likewise. Of course, that was not a new practice as it was a regular custom of religious leaders of those days.

Moreover, we are to admonish ourselves with Psalms as stated by Paul in 1 Corinthians 14:26 and as done by Peter in Acts 13:35.

On no account will you find Jesus or any of his disciples using Psalms to break the door, kill enemies, steal peoples’ properties, get a raise or promotion, bring in a suitor or more customers to business as many do nowadays in churches.

Never forget what Jesus said in John 17:16…

They are not of the world, just as I am not of the world.

So, why behave like those of the world if you are not part of the world?
