LITURGICAL COLOURS AND SEASONS.

The Colour of liturgical vestments changes from time to time. This is because the Church uses different colours to indicate the season or feast that is being celebrated.
The different colours are drawn from creation of remind those participating in a liturgy of the different blessings God.
The colours use are white or gold, purple or violet, green, red and rose pink

WHITE: is the colour of joy and celebration, of renewal and cleansing, and newness. It represents purity and goodness and hope. In the church year, white is used during seasons of celebration - Christmas/Epiphany and Easter - and on special Sundays like Transfiguration Sunday, Trinity Sunday, All Saints' Day, and Reign of Christ Sunday.

GREEN: is the colour of growth and new life. We use this colour the most throughout the church year - all during trinity season.

RED: is the colour of fire, passion, and love. It's bold and strong and vital. Red is used to symbolise Christ's passion during Holy Week and the gift of the Holy Spirit on Pentecost Sunday.
ROSE PINK: Is an optional colour that may be used on the third Sunday in Advent and the fourth Sunday in Lent.
On both of these days, the entrance antiphon calls us to rejoice, so the pink vestments mark a softening of the penitential tone of the season.

Likewise, each season of the church year represents an important part of our faith, our understanding of who God is, and our spiritual journey. I talk a lot about these rhythms and familiar patterns, but I feel like they are so important. There's something so valuable about these traditions and practices, remembering the cornerstones of our faith and reconnecting with the stories that our faith is built on.

In case you're new to the liturgical church year, here is a quick overview:

The church year begins on the first Sunday of Advent (usually the Sunday after Thanksgiving). There are seven primary seasons of the church year:

Advent
Christmas
Epiphany
Lent
Easter
Pentecost
Trinity
