Apptopia, An App Comparator, Raises $20 Million

Data specialist and App Comparator Apptopia raises $20 million. The company hopes to expand its expertise beyond mobile apps and offer more detailed analytics to its customers. It will also hire 25 additional people.

Apptopia has closed a Series C financing of $20 million intended to expand its area of expertise. Boston-based Apptopia provides a competitive analysis of the mobile app ecosystem. By collecting different data, the company draws up a table detailing consumer usage and the success of a mobile application with the public.

This new financing was led by ABS Capital Partners. It follows three consecutive years of growth, says Apptopia, which boasts of being profitable since the start of last year. According to Apptopia, this funding is the result of growing demand from brands, which are more and more fond of information on their digital activities.

Today, the company counts among its customer’s hundreds of renowned companies and other financial institutions, such as Google, Visa, Coca-Cola, Target, Zoom, NBC, Unity Technologies, Microsoft, Adobe and Facebook.

Essential Information

This strong interest is also at the heart of this round. Indeed, Apptopia now wishes to broaden its expertise and no longer limit itself exclusively to mobile applications. Now Apptopia customers want more information. For example, if a competitor sets up a promotions campaign, Apptopia customers want more details about the operation such as the number of unique participants, if these are existing customers, if they returned after the end of promotions, etc.

Apptopia also wants to study consumer behaviour on all devices, be it computer apps, connected watches and even televisions. “Enterprises no longer just want to know what’s happening on smartphones, they want the full picture of app usage,” Apptopia CEO Jonathan Kay told Techcrunch.

To achieve this goal, Apptopia plans to increase its team by 25 additional people in 2021. It also plans to expand its management team by recruiting a financial director, a purchasing director and a marketing director this year.
