Sacrifice > Commitment

Each year, the dawn of a New Year inspires new resolutions and new resolutions require new commitments. And rightly so, Christians gravitate to verses such as Psalm 37:5 and Proverbs 16:3. They are as follows:

“Commit thy way unto the Lord; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass” ~ Psalm 37:5

“Commit thy works unto the Lord, and thy thoughts shall be established” ~ Proverbs 16:3

But could it be possible that we favor verses of commitment over verses which stand in a New Testament context which calls us to sacrifice? Most popular of which may be Romans 12:1-2, which is as follows:

“I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.

And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God” ~ Romans 12:1-2

I dare to say sacrifice is the means by which we commit to something Godly and aligned with God’s will. We give up our own desires and present our bodies as a sacrifice so that we become less like the world and more like who God will have us to be.

Commitment is nice. Sacrifice is crucial. By the sacrifice and the renewing of the mind, we can prove and explore the incredible will of God.
