Friendsgiving

“There is nothing I would not do for those who are really my friends. I have no notion of loving people by halves, it is not my nature” ~ Jane Austen

“Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends” ~ John 15:13

Friends. As a pastor, I firmly believe that we will never value them as much as we should. I am almost afraid to say that in many regards, the Church as a whole, would rather call each other “brother” and “sister” than “friend.” Calling someone a friend indicates that you are fond of them.

But their is a new Phenomena that has begun to pop up around the same time as Thanksgiving called “Friendsgiving.” Much like Thanksgiving, this is a get together but solely with the intention of cherishing and showing thankfulness for good friends.

No one really knows where this phenomena came from but some attribute it to the hit show, Friends. Others, attribute Friendsgiving to a 2007 tweet while others bought into the image dreamed up by a 2011 liquor commercial.

Where ever your vision for Friendsgiving lies, here is a message encouraging you evaluate your friendships. Would you give your life for them? Are your only friends those who you are related to? Are your friends someone who builds you up as Scripture commends (1 Corinthians 15:33).

Good friends will make you better and are definitely a treasure worth celebrating. Find reason to get together and fellowship in the Holy Spirit and be thankful for good friends!

“He that walketh with wise men shall be wise: but a companion of fools shall be destroyed” ~ Proverbs 13:20
