As a science teacher, writer, pastor, and anxiety driven spazz, I need to admit. I like order.

I love that our Lord is an orderly God (1 Corinthians 14:33; 40). I love that our Lord is an orderly God who loves me (John 3:16).

Nonetheless, somethings growing up never quite made sense to me until I put it in a chart. An nice, organized chart. I love them. This one chart I devised was called the “Intercession Quadrilateral.” The Quadrilateral didn’t really have a start and truly doesn’t have an end, but for the sake of the illustration, it goes like this.

A person intercedes on another’s behalf (1 Timothy 2:1). The Holy Spirit, who indwells within us intercedes up to Christ (Romans 8:26). Christ as the right hand of God, intercedes horizontally to the Father (Romans 8:34). The Father intercedes down to those who were prayed for and for who prayed (Romans 8:28).

Of course, this model has it flaws. Perhaps, intercession is not so linear, I admit that.

What the Intercession Quadrilateral does account for however is that intercession is an unbroken chain that always is answered with a “yes,” “no,” or “not now” (2 Corinthians 1:20)

A good ol’ fashion chart comes in handy sometimes!
