As an American Southerner, I can testify to the things considered delicacies to a Southerner.

Southerners like their chicken fried, sweet tea, and many a’ Southern love tomato’s. Colloquially, these are “maters’.”

Many people Grow tomatoes because their is the timeless belief that they are better when you grow them yourself. Saying this, every Southern knows that in order to make tomatoes grow and survive, they need a Stake for the vine to grow up. If there is no stake, the plant will fall over and get eating by slugs and bugs until their is nothing left for a mater sandwich.

As Christians, we are offshoots of the true vine by which we get our sustenance and salvation, Jesus Christ (1 Corinthians 3:11). But, know if you do not stake yourself to that vine and if you refuse to cling to it, you will slump, and your fruit will suffer. Your faith will get eaten quick. And on that day, when you stand before God, your Heavenly reward may suffer as a result.

We do not live this life for an Earthly prize, but a Heavenly one. We seek a day where God looks to us and shakes away all the fluff and only sees the righteousness brought about by the work of His Son Jesus Christ (1 Corinthians 3:13-15).

Cling to the stake. Hold fast. Look and move upward. Do not move out. Move up the stake (Philippians 3:12-14).
