As a teacher, I recently had an upgrade in my classroom. From the classic white Board, I was provided with a new active board. I could write on this board with a dry erase marker, a digital marker, and or write with my finger!

But, the day I got the board, I made a mistake. I went to write something on the board for my students and when I wrote the first line, I realized my mistake. I had written one long line on the board with a permanent marker.

This was a grave mistake and my heart sank. My entire class gasped. I stopped my lesson and stared at the board. Then I went to work with concentrated alcohol (a benefit of being a chemistry teacher) and cleared the board of this mortal sin.

But it made me think of something. It made me think of what is permanent in life and what is temporary (Ecclesiastes 3:1). Like friendships. Sometimes, you have friends for seasons. They are like a dry erase marker on a white board. They serve their purpose in your life and in that regard, they will always be your friend.

Then, you have your friends for life. These are like the things written on a white board with a permanent marker. Sometimes, you do not even realize how long they impact you, but oh, it is beautiful. I find it hard to consider one a friend until they are willing to bear adversity with you. Up until this point, they are an associate.

A lifelong friend will stick closer than a brother/sister (Proverbs 17:17; 18:24)
